Does Blade Play Annoy You??

Side to side, not so much as long as it's very minimal. Up and down play is completely unacceptable.

Well, i guess that depends on the amount of play.
I can tolerate it in small amounts, but generally i don't like it.

Cannot stand blade play, but my tolerance for it is proportional to how much money I paid for it.

As long as its not much more then slight and it passed QC, Im not gonna whine. I could get by with a SAK, as long as I have a fixed blade that is :D

^^^This. I don't mind a little bit of horizontal blade play, but vertical blade play is much less tolerable because it's almost always a sign of a problem with the lockup.

I don't really care all that much. I mean, it's a folding knife after all. I can get any folder to wiggle at least a little. As long as it's not waggling to and fro like crazy (I'm looking at you, first two Twitch IIs), I can live with it.

One of my first 'real' (I use that term loosely) knives was a flash 2 and I stopped carrying it within two weeks because of the amount of blade play and went shopping for my next folder. I adjusted the pivot screw and there was still up and down play and I was just over it. I also agree that it depends on the amount I spent on it, but for the most part I can't stand it.

If it's excessive then it bothers me and I end up having to fix it. If there is still some play after I fix it then I end up being very annoyed as it means that there is a bigger problem with the knife than just a loose pivot and readjusting the rivet didn't work.

no balisong owner wants to speak up? well just with filipino handmades, blade play happens in time. people don't mind as long as the blade's razor-sharp. balisongs aren't working knives.

state-side balisongs have improved sytems for minimizing play in the pivots, even with increasing wear (and they're replaceable) so that's a good feature.

Have any of you, ever had a folder you used long and hard, (over time and not babied at all) that didn't develop a bit of blade play in some direction? Because I have used a bunch and it seems to me if you want no blade play in a folder ever, you must either not use it, (which begs the question, why have it) or use it very carefully. Most frame-locks, lock-backs and liner-locks seem to get a bit up up/down play, if you use them to chop small branches, or cut stuff with a lot of downward pressure. I'm sure I have some (maybe) really high end folders that may hold up better than what I've used so far. (they sure in the heck, feel rock solid) But I haven't used them, they are my eye candy, so maybe It's just wishful thinking, on my part!
