Does Brass Really Have No Class?

The 110 lovers must like the stuff!

.....When I got out of the army, I promised myself three things; I wasn't going to even run across the street, I wasn't going to have anything to do with an AR or any derivative of said rifle with black plastic stock, and I wasn't going to polish any brass!......

"Out of the Army" promises seem to stick. My dad hasn't worn a piece of green clothing since 1945.

As for brass, I really like it when I'm in the mood for it. I have a brass watch that I really like. But I don't wear it all the time. When I do, my belt buckle usually matches. Both have developed patina. I'd like to have a folder with a brass clip and hardware.

I really like brass or gold as accent colors. Used it on my race bike for a few years, used it on my race kit a few years too though it was a little more than an accent color at that point. I do love wood handles and brass bolsters as an all time classy look that never seems to get old, but I do find myself strangely attracted to copper recently.

No one has mentioned Aluminum yet.
I don't care for aluminum on a knife at all. I think it looks cheap.

Edit; Maybe I shoudn't say "at all". If its hard anodized it can look better.

dont mind it myself. got many bucks including a 110 with aluminum.

Where brass shines is next to a good dark wood. Granted, copper or bronze might work in it's place. I always think of the old Rob Hudson and Moran knives when I get a bit down on brass, and then I'm fine with it again -

I'm not traditional enough to really like brass, wood, and bone/antler but I do think that done right it can be beautiful see Dave's knives. I personally think especially the Damascus would be much prettier with a titanium guard and a carbon fiber handle

I like it due to the weight. Patina is nice too. Once I get my CNC running, the first thing I make will be a run of brass channel handle balisong.

Dammit, CM.... get the lead out! And give me a shout when one comes off the line.

I had two brass balis, a Parker Imai and an old Manila Folder. They flip like nobody's business with the heft, and just feel right to me.

Can't wait to try a CMFTW Balisong.

Brass is imitation Gold. I heard that lifers get Gold plated buttons, buckles, etc. so they do not have to polish the stuff for every inspection. My only problem with brass: it is the first thing to turn green every Spring.

I would take bronze over brass any day.

This ^ me too. Heavier, so not always practical but buffed or with a patina it looks great. Might be my boat tradition that leans me to it - no matter the reason - I like bronze
