A friend of mine and my wife's(mainly her friend but her husband is my bud) wants to get her husband a nice knife for their 10 year anniversary. She contacted me for help and with a budget of $300. The catch is she wants it engraved and asked me if I knew of a nice knife. Dumb question but I told here......well.. Y'all know what I told her.
So the question is will CRK engrave on the blade or handle? It's Friday so no one at CRK is answering but I need answers sooner than later.

They will Mike, but there are limitations to the font and number of letters. I remember someone posting here about it, but forget the specifics. Give Heather a call.

I think it would be cool if she sent in her signature with anniversary date and they put it on the blade. Just like how Mr. Reeve does it when he signs a blade.
She needs it fairly soon so I am curious what the ETA would be.

Yes, they will engrave on the handles. I don't think they will engrave the blade though. As far as the handles go, here is a pics of what I had CRK do for me. I cant remember the exact prices and they may have changed in the last couple of years anyways. On existing knives, your limited to reverse contrast ( blasted outside with shiney letters/symbols ) or blasted over like mine, with no color options. If you buy a new sebenza through crk, you can do colors. If you wanna know any particulars, post them and I will try and answer the best I can. Enjoy !

I am going to call and see if they can do the reverse contrast or color.
Time lime is a factor though.

Josh, yea I told her to consider spending $100 to do it the way I know he would want it and she complied.

Mine was gone aprox. 3-4 weeks from the time I sent it to the time I got it back ( a sebenza bought straight through crk might be a little quicker, dont know what they stock ). I believe it was like $60 per line on the front and $32.50 on the back. There is a character limit on the back because they are fitting it between the screws obviously. Those are aprox. prices, but I believe pretty close. I cant remember if there was a set-up fee or not. I do know, once you come up with a design, its YOUR design and CRK will not do another without your permission. I have gotten emails by 2 different individuals wanting the NCIS engraving.

They will only do colors on new knives bought through them. The scales have to be perfectly dead flat. When they machine and use the solution/electric current to color them, it sometimes runs over, so they sand it flat by hand since its dead flat. Thats how you get the perfect lines at the edges of the colors. The scales that are not perfectly flat ( crk spec. flat ), are blasted over and used for regular plain sebenzas. Hence, no color can be added to them. But you can get reverse graphic. Which is blasted background with the shiney machining. I highly recommend the crk dvd, which shows all this. Matter of fact, maybe I will watch it tonight again, havent seen it in awhile :)

Hope this helps a little. Will give you something to think about and brainstorm waiting until monday......lol

I paid 32.50 for my engraving. I simply had mine done when I sent it in for a spa treatment.

Some good information here. The only thing I'd add is to clarify the difference between "reverse silver contrast" and "silver contrast."

Silver Contrast - Blasted handle with silver engraving. This handle can't be refurbished.

Reverse Silver Contrast - Polished handle and grey blasted engraving. CRK can refurbish this type of handle.

Good luck!

Reviving a bit of this thread from last month -- I recently purchased a small Sebenza from my local shop -- one they already had on order. I was hoping to have my anniversary date engraved on it locally but wasn't sure if most places that engrave would be able to do it on titanium. Someone suggested to me just to have it done on the blade but thats not something i'd recommend.

Anyone have experience with getting one engraved by a third party?

I do not think it's a good idea to have someone else to engrave the titanium handles.titanium is very hard to work with and I'd hat for someone to foul up your knife thinking they know what they are doing.
I would send itin to CRK to be safe.

ehh, you have a point ...

(puts down the dremel and backs away)

In my experience it was very simple and quick to get some custom engravings (with color) on a sebbie. My last name is Pepper so these were for my brothers and I. (One of them loves it, the other was like "oh, a knife. ok, thanks." Oh well, it was fun to give.)
