Does dishwashers damage stainless blades?

My wife abuses the shit out of our Cutco set and they’ve seen the dishwasher hundreds of times with no issues. Other knives I’m not so sure about but all of our stainless forks, spoons and butter knives have no issue in the dishwasher either. Do yours?

I've had a set of Cutco knives for maybe twenty years. They were washed by automatic dishwasher for at least half of that time. They seemed to hold up just fine. I haven't owned an automatic dishwasher in at least five years. They've only recently started to have issues. The surface of the handle material has started peeling in just the last year or two.

BTW, Cutco supposedly uses 440A. Yeah, that's not very impressive by current standards. However, it is pretty stainless. Since the shape of their serrations do a lot of the work, they can get away with a softer 440A so long as people aren't routinely sawing into ceramic plates or doing other stupid things with them.

I've had a few of my pocket knives accidentally go through the washing machine inside my jeans without any damage, but I wouldn't put one in the dishwasher.:)

I'll pass on the dishwasher. Fixed lots of these for folks:

Obvious not a stainless blade but look at the handle underneath:

Still a diamond in the rough was hiding there:

Remember its stainless, not stainproof.
