Does Frost make anything worth buying?

I was just at my local thrift store and they had several Steel Warriors. I bought this unusual pattern . For 4 dollars. It seems like a decent knife. One of the sharpest out of the box Ive ever had. No blade play, solid , no gaps.

Dane you got a good deal on that one. Cheapest i have seen them for on-line is $19.00. I have the same pattern S.W. but with different handles. It is a nice knife, even for $19.00

i have a ton of steel warriors, and some other frost knives.
i have yet to use a bad one.
i know they make some junk, but there slipjoints are really nice quality.
there 300 for 299.99 crap is what gives em a bad name it seems.
i even have several duplicates....i haven't had to replace one yet.
i can't say that about some of the higher priced knives i have.

i know, there made in japan and china, but so are just about
everything else we own....times are tuff and i can't afford to buy
the american made knives like i use to.
am i a traitor???..is so,everyone else is too.
if so,then my chevy, and toyota gotta go.
most u.s.made cars are just assembled here anymore you know.

jd, we've been down this road countless times and there's no need to stir up yet another "us versus them" brouhaha here in this particular forum.

Let's let those sleeping dogs lie (and stick to discussion of the knives). Thanks.

No worries, jd...it's clear that you were just offering some perspective. Unfortunately these discussions sometimes get away from us and that's the reason for the abundance of caution.

Absolutely no need to delete or apologize. I know where you're coming from.

Hey jd, good to see you found this thread. I understand what you are saying: it defies logic that a reliably decent folder can be bought for under $10. I've bought hundreds of import folders from ebay sellers and lots cost me less than $10, delivered ! I don't see how that little covers the knife box, shipping, handling by wholesaler and dealer and USPS cost, even if the knives left the factory for free. And then what is even more 'outrageous' is that with some of these brands the reliability factor is close to 100%. You rarely get a 'bum' one.
Makes no sense to me at all. Will it last ? I don't have a clue, but just in case i've bought a huge pile of them because i like to be surrounded by well made knives. The few 'junky' ones i have reveived get disposed of, but i've never had to do that with a Steel Warrior or Rough Rider knife.

roland,i sent you an email earlier.
i been collecting knives for several years and lost my job.
i had to quit buying the pricey stuff and found both rr,and sw
to be of great fit and finish.
i agree with everything you said.i also bought up some extras.
they make a p[attern for a run and never do it the same again.
i have several doubles of bone,or styles that will never be made again.
i been after a set of the civil war copperheads for awhile now.
i found the blue one,but no gray.
if you happen on an extra i sure would like to see it.
i have only seen the one blue one i own.never another one
have i seen.
do you have that set?
it's by rough rider to comemorate(spelling?)the civil war.
the blue has u.s. grant, and gray has r.e.lee etched on blades.
they also made that same pattern in pearl.
i have the pearl, and the grant, but no lee.
i have had to thin my collection over the last year or so just
to keep gas in the car(s).lol
but i still grab em at flea markets now and then.
only now i just grab the ones i don't already have.
i haven't seen a bad sw yet, though i did get the large rr
coke bottle with scales lifting on the edge.
i am in the process of a re-handle on it now though.
i'll post some pictures when i get it done.
it had the yellow delrin, and i am going with striped maple.
probably gonna dye it,but can't decide on a color yet.
any ideas?
thanks for this thread,i knew there would be others who
saw some good in these knives,

Just went through this thread and found it very interesting and enlightening. I too thought the Steel Warriors were "junk" knives but now I see a few on here that I would like to purchase. Thanks for all the posts and education on this brand. I guess you do learn something new everyday.

yes, they have gotten a bad wrap because of all the
junk they sell late night bargain hunting.

but they do make some good stuff for a decent price.
like these,
z_CCN-22273.jpg
they only made this specific one a short time, but the style
actual pattern is still avail in diffrent bone.

Good information guys. I hate to see a company get a bad wrap when it isn't warranted. Thanks for your input Roland.

Today i picked up a truly awe inspiring San Mai Damascus Nessmuk from Aerial Salaverria. I have never been more thrilled by any knife.
So why say that here ? As a way of saying that i have lots of exposure to high end expensive custom knives. And yet, i still really enjoy every new Steel Warrior or Rough Rider knife i get. They range from "really decent" to "very well made". It seems as though some runs come out just a notch higher than their already high standards.
I like knowing that if i loose one of these inexpensive knives, it's no big deal the way it would be if i lost say, my Halfrich "Woodsman" folder. And they cut just as well as a $500+ Custom, at least for the first couple of years. But then they re-sharpen easily and hold the new edge just fine.
They make great unanticipated gifts to friends. "Here, wanna nice knife ?"
It doesn't cost me much and friends are moved by this kindness and often it might be the first truly sharp pocket knife they have ever had. It helps spread appreciation for carrying a Traditional style folder too.
That's just part of why i like these knives.

My take on Frost knives is the little tradional slipjoints are nice...I've recently bought a couple stockmans, trappers and also a couple muskrats..A few were marked Steel Warrior and they do seem a little smoother but the others are fine and marked Pakistan..I can't imagine these little slipjoints not holding up....
