Does it Exist?

I'm interested in a knife with a single wharncliffe blade around 3". Thin enough for my back pocket with a lanyard hole. I prefer a decent blade steel of course. And I want it to be classy looking. Not tactical. And here's the kicker On a budget. That part pretty much eliminates the decent knives that I can think of. Can you all give me some options under 50 bucks.? The Kershaw Leek pops into my head but I want a more traditional knife. Any ideas?

This Maserin Filiscjna is 2 1/2"

I was thinking a GEC Viper until you said under $50.

Yes. I love the look of the Viper and the Sway back too. But nowhere here in town carries them. I would like to check them out before I bought them. But I probably should
Just save up and get one Or eventually Both of them. :D

What about a Case Sway Back Gent? I've seen those in your price range, although you might have to poke around a bit.

I have recently noticed pictures posted in other threads of a Lambsfoot A. Wright knife made in Sheffield, England. From what I find it is gripped in Rosewood and is nice looking. I have found they also offer a " Farmers" model but I haven't studied the differences. I think that even with shipping from the UK they both fall under your price point. I would be curious if anyone else here has familiarity with the quality of the A. Wright knives might chime in here and offer their opinion.
Good Luck,
Rick

I'm not sure if your "around 3" requirement is for the blade or the handle. Since you want it for the back pocket I'll assume it's for the blade.

The A.G. Russell Wharncliffe Blade Sowbelly might interest you if you're ok with the blade steel. Single Wharncliffe blade of 3 3/8 inches, lanyard hole, traditional slipjoint design, and the yellow delrin version is right at your price limit.

Make no mistake, this is a big knife. I just wasn't sure of your 3" requirement.

The Sway Back Gent is definitely on my short list. And I really like the looks of the Lambsfoot also. I'm not sure about the Sow Belly. I've never considered it really but it's a possibility. But I'm not interested in the yellow delrin. But thanks for the suggestions. The blade size can be somewhere around 3" give or take. And I know at that price point the blade steel won't be top notch.

Case makes their mini trapper with a single wharncliffe blade in various scale types that is just a hair under 3". No lanyard hole, though, unless you're handy with a drill press :)

I looked up that wharncliffe Sowbelly just now. It's the first time I have seen it. That's a good looking knife. Thanks for the suggestions everybody.

:) This thread needs more pictures:

It might exist, but at that price range it is going to be hard to find something. Perhaps you should save a little while and get a GEC Viper? The CASE Swayback is a very much smaller knife and might not be what you need, great pattern though.

As far as I know, Rough Rider does not make a Wharncliffe, oddly enough, but they're a solid bet for a well turned out inexpensive knife. One of their Hawkbills or Cotton Sampler types might interest you though.

Certainly do need a few more pix to chew over :D Here's the Trestle Pine that has a very nice broad Wharncliffe.

LOL! :D Thanks guys

I'm having trouble finding that particular pattern.

Possibly it's not available in the US, but a number of European stockists have it

No lanyard hole, but the Lambsfoot is a great pattern in my opinion, and the rosewood models are inexpensive. Fit and finish can be variable though.

Thanks for the comparison pics. Will. And after I win that beautiful Lambsfoot from Jack I will be set. :D I dont own any Hawkbill nor any Cotton Sampler pattern knives. I wish RR did offer a wharncliffe too.

Well, good job I haven't entered otherwise it would be MINE :D:D:D Talk about counting your chickens before they've come home to roost :eek::D:D

You might like to check Rough Rider's Half Hawk pattern, I think it could be a useful stand-in.

Thanks, Will
