Does it Exist?

A bit outside some of the parameters, but a couple more Wharncliffes to ponder.

Well, good job I haven't entered otherwise it would be MINE :D:D:D Talk about counting your chickens before they've come home to roost :eek::D:D

You might like to check Rough Rider's Half Hawk pattern, I think it could be a useful stand-in.

I was just about to suggest the same knife Will :) GT has posted an example in the EDC thread if you want a look

Make sure you get your entry in Will! :D

Buy an Opinel N°8, grind the blade to a wharncliffe shape using a bench vice and hand file (if you don't have power tools), sand the handle to your desire, drill a lanyard hole, and you're only out $10.00 plus your time. If you're handy and careful and refinish the handle, you can have a beautiful piece. I've seen it done in these pages.

The Portuguese manufacturer MAM produce several very inexpensive Sheepsfoot patterns

Here's another suggestion if a Sheepsfoot blade is acceptable.

Kershaw Corral Creek. I own this knife and it's well made. Especially for the price.

If a sheepsfoot blade is acceptable, then you might find a new or almost new GEC #47 single sheepsfoot very very close to your budget.
The Case mini trapper suggestion is very good as well.
A GEC wharncliffe #72 might fit your bill as well; a bit above your price range, but you might find a lightly used one as well.

Will, Whats the name of that large wharncliffe on top? It's very nice.

Zieg, I have a #8 with the carbone blade. I have thought about "modding" It. I just haven't seen any that turned out the way I want them to look.

Jack, do you own any of the Mam knives? If so, are they about the same as Opinel?

Thanks guys.

Yes, it looks nice. I think I may have to get one while I make up my mind. :)

Quattromori, Yes, I've been looking at those too. Thanks for the suggestions

I got one of those the other day, I'll probably gift it to a friend, but it struck me as a nicely made knife

I have a couple, both in stainless, and neither a Sheepsfoot. I'd say they are of similar quality to Opinel. A couple of our members here have more experience of them than me though

Of course, if you're really on a budget, I think these friction folders from Pallades come in at about $5! ;)

Gasman, ignore the cold steel photo which I hope is in your pocket right now. I'm on vacation and couldn't take a solo photo of the Case. But so funny as I just found this thread right now waiting for my wife. But the one above it is a Case Carhartt wharncliffe mini trapper.

It's one of my favorite knives and on sale everywhere selling for $30 plus shipping. Blade hq had them, a forum sponsor but might be sold out.

GasMan sorry about the late reply. The large Wharncliffe is a Hanwei Paul Chen from China. 'Sheffield Folder' in Bonestag. Very high quality finish, but it's actually a bit 'naughty' here as it's skeleton construction, one handed opening, no spring and button lock. Very well made knife indeed but I think unavailable now.

Thanks, Will

Chris, I have been eyeing that Carhartt Case. And you are correct that mini Tuff has been with each everyday. Thanks again. :)

will, I really like the looks of that. I don't believe I have ever seen that one before.

Smaller wharnies of any ilk make great edc's!
