So i really like knives but would it make any sense if i told someone that I LOVE KNIVES but only have 1 cheap 9 dollar folding knife?

This was my only folding knife for 7 years, and I carried it every day for those years. I think it costed me about $15 new.

I think it makes sense if that's all you have to spend on knives. At the end of the day it's a tool, and you spend what you think it's worth to you. If you like knives and have some spending money, I'd suggest spending a little bit on a higher quality blade. I have found that it's much more enjoyable to have a quality knife in my pocket. That being said, knives are pretty low on my financial priority list. If the knife you have is meeting your needs there's little reason to spend more.

It's fine IMO. I love....turtles. and I don't own any.

Seriously though, I often drool over super-expensive watches up in the thousands, but am perfectly satisfied with my Eco-Zilla which was
far less expensive, but being durable, and solar powered I can't really see the need for another.

I have often wondered why I don't apply this same line of logic to my knife collecting. If I have one that is suitable why do I wish for more?
You may be at that same point that I am with with my watch. Your one knife serves all of your purposes. However as you are new to the forum
I foresee you having more knives in your future.

Sounds fair to me. It's probably a good thing because you're more likely to do your research before buying something expensive. If you are looking at buying another knife soon I too recommend an Opinel. There is a lot to like about them; they are an excellent purpose-driven design. They are also very inexpensive and sharpen well using the "sandpaper" method.

I think its normal. Especially if you have family and other priorities that make knives a spendy hobby. I love knives. Always have. But sometimes the urge to really be into it is greater than other times and then I sway into guitars and I usually have to sell most my knives to afford THAT hobby. Dont get me wrong if I had a large amount of disposable income I would keep everything and have a blade room. But born with a silver spoon and/or motivated I am not. So I live a meager existence and usually have a small collection of about ten knives and if I want another I have to sell one or some. I mean hell man, I am a huge fan of italian sports cars but about the only one I can afford is a ferrari. Now, if you are sitting on a fat stack of cash and still only have one junker? Yeah thats a little odd. Or you just havent found what you like yet.

Haha, that is funny stuff blues. You have some nice knives BTW!

I also carry a very nice knife ( insert value here) in Wal-Mart jeans. Every single pair my man. They carry Schmidt up here and Rustler. And of course that is my only knife

OP, you should try some other knives for a few more bucks. There are so many choices in the sub 50$ range it is unreal. I love base ball and football, but I do not pay for the sports channels or basic cable. I just use the radio and channel 10 :)

Bro, much respect for you! I certainly dont think one should measure their love of knives by the knives they own.

That's sure better than carrying a $10 knife in $750 jeans.

Damn Straight, EyeDog.

Don't worry Butterboy.... I'm REALLY INTO high performance supercars.... but I drive a Mazda station wagon.

If you get down to the bottom line, nobody NEEDS a costly knife and few people need more than one blade. But, life is not always about needs. Enjoy your knife. Other blades will come with time. Hang around us and you will end up with with a bunch more.

Thanks:thumbup:

Wrangler and Levi's out here, I felt like a rich SOB when they had Nautica's on sale at the local Sam's Club. And my shoes? Man, you'd think I was homeless...

I think my lack of fashion helps support my knife-budget. $300 knife? Sure! $50 jeans? Hmmm, let's see if they're on sale somewhere else:D

A good knife doesn't have to cost a lot. You can cut open a box with a cheap blade about as well as with an expensive one. It is likely that you'll purchase better knives with time, but it's not necessary. This is a passion for some, and just a tool for many.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

And as a couple of others have said, I love high performance cars, but I only own one car, and it's not expensive.

And I know I'm not the only one on the forums who is into guitars, and I used to own a lot of nice guitars. Now I have only 3, and they are not high end, but they are nice, and they do what I need them to do. I have actually sold guitars to buy knives, and vice versa. Depends on my wants at the time.

That being said, these days, I have most of my hobby money wrapped up in knives.

My point is, different people have different priorities. If knives become a big enough passion for you, you will probably find a way to acquire them. Just be patient, and don't spend foolishly.

 It's your knife. Buy/own/carry whatever you want. Do you want us to talk you into buying a more expensive knife?
