Please tell me where you get Redwings for six bucks? My dad owned a shoe store and I grew up in Red Wings and Florsheims, while my buddies were wearing discount shoes (can't recall...Rand?). To this day, gotta have good shoes and boots. Doc Martens, Matterhorn, Clarks, Justin, Dan Post. Sorry Bender, but I wouldn't be caught dead in those "boots"? LOL .

FWIW, I carry a $750 knife in my Walmart jeans:D

Exact same! Whats funny, I can browse knives all day long and if I see something I like for $100-$200 I think to myself, wow what a great deal. I get to the cash register at Kohls buying two pair of jeans and they say $65 I near freak out.

To the OP, buy what you can and carry what you can. I have never looked down upon people who carry "lesser branded knives". One of my first knives was a cheap Winchester Buck 110 knock off knife, I still have it to this day and will never get rid of it. Before my overseas job and travels, I carried it every time I went camping, and it sits front center in my display cabinet.Untitled by danny.nystrom, on Flickr

Not at all, carry what you like, what you can afford and what you'll use.
You can appreciate them without collecting them. I love boats, other than the couple kayaks I have, I do not plan on buying a real boat (It will be a total impulse buy when it happens).

I have about a dozen knives, but pretty much all of them are $50 or less, most are less than $20, almost all are still good quality knives that do what I need. For years I carried cheap knives that I got for Christmas, it's what I could afford at that point in my life.

Enjoy your knife, when/if you're ready to expand your horizons, we will all be here on Bladeforums to give you rabid fanboy advice on what you MUST HAVE!

I was gonna say that too! Where in there world did you get $6 RedWings???? All my pairs have been $200 plus. I've had countless pairs in my years. Still have a lot of the older ones...but the newer ones they make just don't seem to last like they used to....

I'm really into MilSurplus If I could afford it and justify it I'd buy a used Soviet T-55 tank off one of those sites, but I can't so guess I'll stick to my Models lol. Plus it would eat significantly into my Knife Purchasing for a while.

Haha. Those were $235 out the door with crazy Cali sales tax and union discount. I'm with you guys on the quality footwear. Why even mess with with a crappy pair of boots.

I have several pairs of $250-$300 jeans (about 7 pairs).

The knives I carry them in are mostly about the same value.

The thing with both is I can sell them "used"...yes used! High end jeans (even though pre worn) still sell just like used or pre owned knives do. Depends on the wear.. but I would have to say that the jeans hold their value better.

There is one company out of California that makes jeans that cost $600. when used ones on Ebay are advertised they are snapped up for around $400-$500.

I wear carharts at work, Levi's any other time. I carry different knives depending on the job. I won't crawl through a confined space with a knife I don't mind trashing or losing.

I think it depends on the knife. What are you carrying? The $9 knives that come to the top of my head are s&w (horrid knives that won't even take an edge) Gerber parafame (another horrid knife), cheapos like Lionel and the cold steel kudu. If it's an opinel or kudu or similar, that's great, if not you might wanna consider replacing it with a non garbage knife.

Butterboy, Where do you live in Brazil?

where does your cousin reside in the USA for now?

My whole life I carried $20 Gerber knives, and would regularly upgrade. I've always liked knives, but it wasn't until a couple years ago that I finally decided to get a better knife. That one better knife kept me satisfied too, and it wasn't until I lost it recently and bought another one that I finally caved in and started buying some more stuff, although so far, the replacement for that "good" knife is the only one I spent real money on. The rest are still inexpensive (but good quality) knives. This hobby doesn't have to be expensive if you don't let it. :)

So i really like knives but would it make any sense if i told someone that I LOVE KNIVES but only have 1 cheap 9 dollar folding knife?

sure does. i love guns, but can't own them in germany unless i am a certified hunter or jump some other legal loops.
if your knife does the trick for you, more power to you. actually i think that somebody who cares for that one knife he carries all day might be more content than the one always on the lookout for the next 500+$ collector piece.

It's not what or how many you own. It's the common interest we all share here 👍👍

If it matters, I loved knives and only had one for many years. Used that knife all the time. Got older, working, and it is kind of like jeans..... you eventually start getting a few extras even if you can only wear one pair at a time.

We all started somewhere, and we all have to shop within our personal budgets.
I'm just glad we're in a hobby that offers quality functional options at every price range.
