Does KMG ship to Canada? How pricey is it to have one shipped?

Hi there,

I'm new to knife making and keep seeing that the KMG is the best product out there for belt grinder's. I live in northern Canada and I'm wondering if the cost will be increased substantially because of that? If so, what alternatives do I have to the KMG? I was also wondering which model would be best to invest in for knife making?

Thanks in advance everyone,

Troy

You need to call them and ask because in the past, they had some bad experiences shipping outside the USA so the wouldn't ship to a lot of places..

I'm pretty sure they do not ship to Canada. I considered having one shipped to a US address, and then picking it up and bringing it across the border myself. I decided against that and bought a different grinder.

Shipping across the border has a few drawbacks. Biggest one for me is "brokers fees". Bought a $40 item shipped Fedex and they charged me $18 brokerage fees and tax. If I am having something shipped across the border I get it shipped USPS because they have much more reasonable brokerage fees.
Other issue is time. I have had stuff hung up at the border for up to 6 weeks.
I live close to the border so I have stuff shipped to a place called Pic It Up in Sumas. They receive my shipment and I pay $3 to pick it up from them and bring it across the border myself. Often don't even get asked to pay tax on my stuff. Guy that runs the shop is funny and great. There are other shops that do the same thing.

They wouldn't last year. Check out polar bear forge. They do a clone for a reasonable price. Knifemaker.ca also sells an economy grinder, and high end bee grinders. I don't see the economy grinders on their site now, so send them an email. Getting the eerf plans and having a local water jet service cut it out is probably the most economical option with our exchange rate what it is. When I ordered my clone, the dollar was on par.

You could check out TDM Grinders. They are made in Alberta. I have one and like it.

Greetings,
I second the TDM grinder. I have one and waiting for my second and third in the coming weeks.

Same here go with TDM I have 4 of his grinders in my shop and will be adding one more . Just to stay ahead of Dennis hahaha

That's the grinder I was thinking of.

Economy only in price compared to what's available in Canada.

Im not sure what you mean by economy . Like I said before I have 4 of Terry's grinder and one Bee.The Bee don't even come close to Terrys grinders. Plus i haven't seen anything out there that I would want to changed Terrys grinders for.
I've looked at them all.

Thanks everyone for your replies. Realistically, it will cost me a substantial amount, given the exchange rate at the moment. TDM sounds like an interesting alternative I will have a look. Any specific recommendation's for what I should be looking at?
