Does knife weight matter to you?

I prefer 5.5 oz for folders or less for a 3.5 to 4 inch blade. I realize that some of the heavier folders may provide added strength , but my strongest 5 oz folders give me all the strengthI need in a knife.

While light weight knives are nice for pocket carry I prefer a little heft when using it about 3.5 to 5.5 for a folding pocket knife seems more reasonable. For a folding hunter 110 at 7+ oz in a sheath doesn’t bother me. There’s something about having some weight in hand that makes heavy duty cutting more effective and comfortable. Also a bit more handle thickness helps.

I have handled and used some heavier 4 inch folders that were close to 10 oz and that seemed a bit cumbersome and they weren’t very ergonomic either. I pass on those bricks.

there was a time back in the day when
brass bolster folders was the norm.
it took a while for knife consumers
in the past to transition from
dead weight to feather lite.
perhaps because heft was in part associated with sturdyness
as opposed to synthetics like plastics
which was largely considered
as cheap and flimsy.
fast forward today and we see that
the vast majority of consumers
have complete faith
in modern manufacturing.
weight does matter.
like for instance;
i am always instantly put off by fakes
that normally seems to weight twice
or three times as much than an original !
a heavy folding knife imo,
is certainly not worth its weight in gold.
though i suppose a tip heavy fixed bladed
chopping knife might.

I or edc, yes,i a bit. I don't mind 5oz or so when wearing jeans in a casual kicking around sort of way, but more often than not, I'm carrying a sak Spartan because if it's versatility, size, and weight.
If I am covering miles on a muti day trek in difficult terrain with a backpack, you can bet weight is a major consideration.
