Does my firesteel make me look fat???

I like loops on my sheaths, use shock cord for retention- my firesteels aren't my primary firestarting bits though, I like a lighter for that :)

typically I have a matchsafe in my pocket, firesteel w/ my knife and a lighter (or two) in my pack

heck I even have a little firesteel (and two flattened tinder tabs) in my wallet

dont buy handled firesteels. buy 5/16" blank steels in bulk and handle them myself. so a bit of time but few $ invested.

Those are nice sadiejane. I buy blanks and make my own handles, usually using a piece of an old spindle used for firebow. Mine aren't very nice like yours, and I think it is cool when you buy the blank and put some time into making a nice personal firesteel as you have. Again, my initial post was just to provoke some reading not to really bust peoples balls....

Except for rick....

Don't know how I missed this thread... oh ya... I probably saw that Ken made it and passed it over.

Anyway, I will open myself to ridicule once again and list my firestarting system for the deep woods during the colder months.

Pack
Emergency Firebag - pre-prep'd jute/steel wool/cedar bark/char cloth bundle, fatwood, Bic lighter, firesteel, innertube and (4)8hr tea lights.

On me
Firepouch - HBC tobacco box, flint and steel, char, steel wool, tinder fungus, jute, char cooker, firesteel.

Neckpouch - firesteel/scraper mag bar, fatwood.

Pocket - Bic lighter

Actually ON Me
(1) mini firesteel/scraper taped to the back of my calf

Rick

I thought it was a condom that you taped to your calf??? At least now I won't be so nervous the next time you are behind me and you pretend to tie your shoes again :D

I have too many firesteels and it stresses me out. Now I just take the tinder, put it in my mouth, and ignite it with my anger.

I have a custom pouch for my Leatherman. Among its contents is a firesteel and a piece of fatwood. If I’m wearing pants, I have that with me. I carry a few other incendiary tools as well, just for luck.

I want one of those .5"ers @ 12" long. I can strike it off of some of the knuckle heads in the woods lately.

finally got around to snapping a few pix of that ml baldric with firesteel n ferro rod
its a recent build and i havent had the opportunity to use it much yet
but i have a feeling this is gonna be one of my favorites. that knife just feels good in the hand
and it arrived sharp as blazes, as with every ml knife ive received
