Does my motor run too hot???

I recently got my Coote 2x72 with 10" wheel and hooked up a HF 1 HP motor which is running on 110.The motor runs the grinder fine, but I've noticed that the motor is getting very hot. After about 15-20 minutes of continuous running, some parts are so hot that it will sizzle if I throw a drop of water on it.It is an agricultural motor made for continuous running, and has not tripped the circuit breaker, nor has the "thermal protector" button on the motor ever popped. Is this normal for a motor??Thanks for any advice in this matter.

My motor, 1hp Baldor, never gets hot, never even gets warm. That sounds bad to me. (10" coote here as well)

That is not good. It shouldn't get even near that hot. You may want to try plugging it into an outlet that has a higher amp breaker. See if it still gets hot. If it does then I don't know but I wouldn't use it like that anymore. You may want to ask an electrician. When electrical stuff gets hot it could be a fire danger and that sounds way too hot!

Ray - A higher amp breaker won't make it better ! But could cause a fire in the lines!!!

This is VERY BAD -take the motor back.

The unit could sieze up and/or catch fire.
It could overload the lines and cause a fire.
It could electrocute you.

NONE OF THESE ARE GOOD. Disconnect it and do not use it.

.....nor has the "thermal protector" button on the motor ever popped......

This makes me think that the motor is wired incorrectly. If it is a dual voltage motor 110/220 and CW or CCW rotation...you'll have a lot of oportunities to mix up the wires for your set-up.

I would double check the wires in the connection box.

Good Luck,
Rob

Thanks for the advice so far guys.I'm going to check the wiring diagram again to make sure its correct. The motor is running on an outlet that has its own dedicated wire from the breaker box.The wires don't get warm at all, just the motor itself is getting hot.If all else fails,I'll have to send it back.I'm not comfortable with it getting that hot.

I'm with Rob on this. I did that once with a motor and it kept getting too hot and tripping breakers and the thermal button. It's real easy to do, though I still don't know how I got the voltage wiring backwards. Also the thermal reset may or may not work.

I use a 1horse on my coote, and I wish I'd went for a 1.5 or 2 horse motor. The 1 horse works fine, but it can be over worked fairly easily.

Should also mention that I haven't had good luck with Harbor Frieght motors. last one I got burnt up pretty quick.
