Does OKC have a sharpening service?

So use your other knives for cutting tasks. You own a fair amount. Save the money you would consider spending on sending that knife to someone for sharpening and buy a Norton stone. And don't buy that $1 Arizona tea. Buy a grip of Lipton and make tea for a month.

If you are so destitute then why 5 days ago do you have a $150 budget:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-Mini-Griptillian-G10-or-Benchmade-North-Fork

Not that it's your business, but my tail light was out in my car and I got a ticket.
The comment about the tea was me exposing that I can't buy anything. I don't actually drink that crap. Honestly I'm not really appreciating your "help" if that's what you'd call it.. it's like you're trying to discredit me rather than focusing on the actual question.

And just 11 days ago you were looking at some very expensive knives with yet another recommendation thread:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1435725-Benchmade-761-Ti-Monolock-vs-Sebenza

So what is it? Are you a poor kid who can't afford a $1 iced tea or a guy looking at >=$150 knives?
I sold my southard a few weeks ago. So I had $190 to spend on whatever. I got a ticket for my taillight being out. So that's what my money went towards. Do not condescend me or refer to me as a kid. Considering how rude you're being, I should be calling you the kid. Please don't waste anymore time of your precious life responding. I don't appreciate anything you're saying, and you're being petty. So please, don't bother responding.

The problem here is that you made it a point of having a long story about why you couldn't afford even $1, no mention of this new development. So how would you have sent your knife to OKC? Or even how would you have paid to send your knife to a BFC member? Putting all the other stuff aside explain that.

When I was in college I studied mathematics and had a heavy load of homework everyday. I'd often go above and beyond my studies and graduated Summa Cum Laude. I also worked full time at a fast food joint and just made things possible. Had my own car, a nice Griptillian with custom scales, money in my pocket, etc..

Work hard, don't make excuses, and take pride in what you do. You'll have a Sebenza in your pocket and an Arizona tea in your hand in no time:thumbup:

My local hardware store carries single sheets of sandpaper for like $.20-$.65 depending on grit. Scrounge some change from your buddy's couches, the bus stop, the dining hall floor, etc, and buy a few sheets. Sharpen while studying.

solid suggestion.coffee mugs work in a pinch too.

top of your car windows works too

For the price of postage you can find a local resource. I googled "knife sharpening Danbury, CT" and came up with a dozen.

Try your local weekend farm/fruit/French/village markets. They have more than fruit and vegetables. The one in my town has a guy there every weekend that will sharpen a pocket knife for $6.

Or.

Go to YouTube and search "Ceramic coffee cup sharpening" then "Car door glass sharpening" then "cardboard strop"

When you're done there got to www.Images.Google.com . Type in "How do I get to Carnegie hall?".;)

there's nothing more disappointing than a dull knife.

Sorry about your financial situation, kid. OKC doesn't have a sharpening service. Since you can't afford any other options, I guess you will have to use one of the many other knives you talk about owning in your other posts. I won't waste your time again suggesting you should learn to sharpen. Or my time either.

It all started with a spyderco resilience which I thought was obnoxiously large and I thought the spyderhole looked weird. But then I got the paramilitary 2. That's what started it. And I can still say it's my go to a d lost carried.
Please share your collections! Doesn't have to be spyderco, just interested in what everyone rotation looks like!

I hate arguing semantics. The $1 tea comment was a hyperbole to stress that I can't really afford a $20-$35 sharpening system. But I would be okay with spending under $5 for shipping to get my knife sharpened because of the fact that I can find that money somewhere. Either in my car or in a pocket or something. I don't happen to come across $20 ever. Jesus Christ. Enough of the backstory. Can we all just focus back to the original question.

The original question was answered several times:

"No"

There ya go.

Now go ignore friendly advice somewhere else.

I'm not sure what else you're looking for. Your question has been answered many times already: local source it, send it to a BF member that does a great job, or do it yourself. Unless you're waiting for Ontario to respond that they'll do it "just this one time", I would say you have your answers and just need to make a decision. I would suggest the sandpaper route as that works fine AND cheaply for both knives and chisels. Good luck.

The best advice in the thread still stands. "Find" $5 somewhere, put it under your mattress. Do that 5 times. Buy a Norton stone and learn to sharpen. There's no guitar enthusiast on earth who can't tune their guitar. You have > 10 knives. It's time to learn.

Replace the bulb and take a picture of the working tail light on your phone and the burnt out bulb to court to show the judge. Problem solved. ;) :)

Okay. Did you take this professional sharpener up on his offer after you brought up that you ruined your knife with a belt sander almost 3 months ago?

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-second-Ontario-Rat-1?p=16351474#post16351474

Did you not see this? You've started a lot of recommendation threads so I could understand this one slipping through. Further, did you bother to look in the services offered part of the exchange for a BFC member sharpening service?

There is no free lunch (or Iced Tea). OKC doesn't offer sharpening that we know of. Again, in my first post of this thread you never answered my question. Did you ask them or just us? Most of the more expensive brands offer sharpening of their knives but you would still need to pay shipping and you paid for the service with the initial higher cost of the knife. A local service would still cost you. Even the guy you ignored on here would still need shipping. I'd suggest saving that money and getting a cheap stone. Even if it takes you a fair bit of time you will be better served. You have a enough knives that you will not be blade-less without the RAT 1. And frankly, if you can't save up $20 for a stone it might be time to look at where your priorities are going.

"Basically I spend every second o my day focusin on: physics II, organic chemistry, genetics, calculus and advanced composition."

So you are smart enough to study these subjects but not smart enough to learn how to sharpen. In your mind the problem is that your RAT1 is dull and OKC doesn't offer free sharpening. In my mind the problem is you.

It takes time and money to put a mirror polished edge on a knife, but you can get a basic toothy working edge quickly and cheaply using the advice already offered.

You can buy a EZE-LAP 1 by 3 Diamond Stone for less than $10 . If you own a leather belt, you have a strop. Save money and learn to sharpen a knife.

So I commute an hour to and from school. I saved enough money to cover tuition and to cover gas for the semester. I don't have money for anything else, literally. I have the money in my account strictly for gas. I'm staying with my aunt and cousins who live an hour from my school so I just have to do chores in exchange for a roof over my head which is great. But I can't even buy a 99¢ Arizona iced tea unless I found change on the ground. I literally do not have any extra money unless I decide to start selling my knives, and I use all of them so I'd rather not. What I'm saying is I don't have money for anything extra so please don't suggest I buy stones.

"Literally" is not the word one uses when using hyperbole

I hate arguing semantics. The $1 tea comment was a hyperbole to stress that I can't really afford a $20-$35 sharpening system.

Actually its the opposite of the word one would use.

All that aside, 1) if you have and use all those knives, surely they become dull. What have you used to sharpen them?

And, 2) what happened to your Sharpmaker?

Back when in my only teens when I started carrying edc knives I used a pull through sharpener. The only steels I used on it were 420hc, Aus 8, and 8cr13mov. Basically the softer steels. It could never slice through paper cleanly after, but it would get it to be sharper than dull. But now in my twenties I've moved on to a Spyderco sharpmaker which actually gets it hair shaving sharp again.

BS-artist supreme. Why not take up the offer of free sharpening?

In addition, I'd bet you can trade one of those expensive knives for a sharpening system right here on the forums...but then you already have one :)

Plus, what's a poor college kid doing with 1K+ worth of knives? When I was in college I had a Victoronix pioneer and a Western Boy Scout knife. I didn't start buying knives until I was out of college 10 years.

Don't belly-ache about money until you've sold all your fancy knives but the Buck and Rat.

You can sharpen any knife with sandpaper. Cut it to be about 1" bigger than a paperback book. Just fold over about a 1" and tuck the folded over part under the cover of the paperback book. Use 400, 600 and then 1000 grit. You'll get a great edge. Or you can glue it to a wood block if you don't like a convex edge.
