Does "pruning" mean deleting or archiving?

Deleting. Let's face it, info over 3 years old really isn't referenced much anymore. I won't delete threads where the last post is newer than 3 years old in most forums.

Spark,

Wouldn't we be better served by splitting the information onto two forums? One an archive the other active; each with independent search tools. Why would you want to throw out the Bladeforums only real asset - its historical wealth of data?

Precisely.

The only problem is this data is NEVER being referenced. I mean seriously, 99.8% of it is just taking up space. The remaining .2% is referenced once in a blue moon. I could split it but it's not even being used effectively

At the university that I attend we have this massive climate-controlled (probably expensive) shelving facility where they put millions and millions of books that aren't used very often. It keeps them from clogging up the main libraries where everyone goes to check out the common physics, math, engineering, or whatever textbooks.

However, ocassionally you really need some obscure journal from way back in 1894 and have to go to the shelving facility to find it.

It would be a real shame if they dumped those millions of books out in the streets and burned them.

Could care less about anywhere else, prune to your heart's content, but the older posts on the Spyderco forum can be very helpful to me when researching an older model. I suspect the same would be true for other Spyderco collectors and for collectors of other brands with a manufacturer's forum here as well.

I know this is near the deadline, but is it possible to hold off on the Busse forum. A fellow forumite and I am working hard trying to preserve the useful posts. Thanks for considering it.

You beat me to it! I just popped in to make the same request.

Thanks,

Jerry

Mr. Busse, KAAK and I are still going strong trying to get this to work. I am not exactly tech savy so I am using the File--Save As method. I only hope it works. KAAK, is getting pics and I am trying to get text.

Thanks Mr. Busse,
Peter

Seems like there are several forums that are scrambling to figure out how to save posts....If anyone comes up with a simple solution ...or heck, any solution please post it where everyone can see it.

I am trying File--Save As. It works but only one thread at a time. If you go onto the HI forum they have a way to do it but I am not technologically inclined and can't get it to work.

I stayed up all last night to do it, their is an amazing amount of information their. Not only information, but the thoughts and prayers of the entire Busse (and HI) community. It would be a shame if it is lost.

Maybe I'm not doing it right, but when I do an Advanced Search, all I get are edit messages. I've tried several times to use the Archives, but that hasn't helped either.

The search function seems kind of flaky at times for me too - I may type in a search term, but the search doesn't work and absolutely nothing happens. At least some sort of error message would be helpful there, so I could know why my search didn't work.

I think that there could be a way to make some small design decisions which would increase use of the search. Especially in the archives. Maybe give the archives a more flashy name: "Search the Bladeforums.com Knowledge Base".

There are a lot of useful old threads in the ShopTalk forum too.

Could you hold for a day or two on the Spyderco forum also? PLEASE!
I'll script something together to archive the posts!

Khukuri Monster, this is from the active forums. The 'archive' URL is just a different look (and easier to process in scripts).

If you were to browse the 'archive', you'll see all new posts in there also

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-360017.html

I'm currently 90% on the Spyderco forum. Then I'll do Busse, then the Spyderco Archive, then CRK and then shoptalk. Then whatever I can do more.

Ted
