I was looking for a Spyderco S30V and I saw the SAGE. I like the looks of it but does anyone has some experience with it? Or does someone know if it's a good knife? I couldn't find any info about it. (Except the spyderco.com info).

Thanks.

I've been carrying one for a couplee of months now. It is outstanding. The fit and finish were perfect on mine, the ginds were even, the edge is thin and slices like a demon. The carbon fiber has enough texture to give good purchase without shredding your pocket. The wire clip is unobtrusive and carries the knife low in the pocket. The attention to detail is amazing; there are features that it takes a real knife knut to appreciate, from the sculpting of the spacers to the offset arc lockface on the blade tang.

I have one and think it's great. In fact it receives a lot of praise. The only thing deterring some people from buying one is that it's made in Taiwan (which would not deter me obviously), but other than that reviews are overwhelmingly positive.

People keep asking if a particular Spyderco knife is "good". Spyderco doesn't, and has never, to my knowledge, ever made a "bad" knife. Some may disagree but they are entitled to their opinion.

Not every Spyderco knife is to my taste. Some simply don't fit my hand. But that doesn't mean they aren't "good" knives. I'd go so far as to say they are "great" knives. Just find one that fits your hand and fits your needs and you're good to go.

With that in mind, you can NEVER go wrong with Spyderco.

I love my Sage, and really don't mind that it came from Taiwan. As far as I'm concerned, it's a Spyderco and I'm confident that it was made according to their standards. Mine gets quite a bit of pocket time.

I plan on getting all of the different versions as they are released.

I've been collecting Spydercos for many years, and the one riding in my pocket right now is the Sage. It is a very, very good knife, and may be my favorite Spyderco ever.

Thanks guys for the info and pics!! Sorry, I couldn't respond. I had a pretty heavy Marine training. I thought that the knife is made in Taiwan but the S30V is made in the USA?

S30V is a great steal. But is it better than VG-10? Those two are pretty close right?
I just missed the bidding on ebay, so I'm buying a Delica right now. Seems like a superb knife, best steel and knife for the price I guess. I'll try to get a S30V later, but I'm not in a hurry so the Delica will do for now.

Hi Easy,

We ship the USA made S30V to the maker in Taiwan. We end up with a better knife, IMO.

In Seki, we use VG-10 as it is a Japanese steel from the Takefu foundry. Taiwan doesn't make any blade steel so all of their steel is imported. Steels like VG-10 or S30V are not readily available in Taiwan.

This thread and the one linked in post 2 pushed me over the edge. I must try the Sage. I'm impressed by the great reviews and praise on fit & finish that it has received. Thanks yablanowitz and jonnymac44 for the great photos.
I like the Native and Caly 3 a lot, so I've gotta try the Sage.

Can anyone tell me how well the edge is covered by the handle when closed? Is the edge buried pretty deep in the handle? One of the things that bothers me a little about the Caly 3 (CF model and even more so the G-10 version I have) is that the edge/tip is just barely covered by the handle when closed. I prefer to have a little more room for error, and more room for wear as the blade shrinks from many sharpenings over the years.
