Does stainless belong on a traditional knife?

I carry a yellow handle CV Case Large Trapper. The trapper is my favorite pattern with whittler a close second.

I like a wide variety of knife patterns though. For my collecting purposes,
because I don't have the money for every knife I like, I've limited myself to limited run knives. I look for small runs of carbon or stainless(D2, ATS-34, BG-42, and 440C). The smaller runs are futher limited by patterns and handle material. I prefer natural handle material (bone, stag, ivory, etc..,)

I don't see a thing wrong with the use of stainless in slip joint and though I like the traditional patterns, I like the fact people are creating variations. What is new today will likely be a traditional knife to someone in the future

My stockman is in stainless. I edc it, but if (when) I end up replacing it, I have no doubt that I will buy a carbon steel knife to replace it. I believe that I will begin EDCing a carbon knife in the future as well, when I get a Svord Gent Peasant (the smaller 2" model). I like the Patina aspect, however I believe it is possible for stainless to look good to. It's all about the finish. Extremely polished steel doesn't look good on a traditional to me, usually. If it starts with a lesser polished finish, it may be good.

I also consider the smaller SAK's- Tinkers, Spartans, Banatams, Campers, Soldiers, Farmers, Pioneers, Recruits- stuff that doesn't have a gozillion layers, to be traditional along with the Pocket Pal and other single and multi blade Vic makes to be traditional. I couldn't imagine those in anything other than Vic's Stainless.

I like em either way , just scored this Case Tony Bose , along with the Whittler and the toothpick.... if buying/using/making custom knives weren't bad enuff , now the slipjoint addiction begins.....
in just a few weeks , this Case Bose sure has cut a lot of stuff :D

I think you had it right..addiction. Been spending a lot of late nights in the shop trying to make one of these work from scratch. Used to grinding fixed blades , these little blades keep flying out of my hands !

Up until this year I never really looked at owning any slipjoints although I have been ogling them since I met Rick Nowland at Blade 2004. I spent a bunch of the Vegas show this year checking out slip joints...
