Does stripping void the warranty?

I think I want to strip my bk7, but I won't if it'll void the warranty. Also looking for stripping methods and recommended strippers. Thanks!

This question came up a few days/couple weeks ago, I believe the verdict was no, it does not void warranty. Abuse and regrinding do as far as I know.

I personally strip my knives by hand, with lower grit emery paper, but that's a lack of tools on my part. A lot of people use Klean Strip, that seems to work really nice, just be very careful with it.

no it doesn't void the warranty. I stripped my bk7 and ground a choil into it. Then snapped it while prying a fatlighter stump. The good folks at kabar asked no questions.

Anything that alters the original metal, from what I can tell, will void the warranty. Such as grinding, welding, etc.

Basically, the finish is cosmetic, which means, during normal use, its gonna come off, I don't care what kind of finish it is, even ZT's DLC will wear, albeit slowly.

But, you grind a choil, or jimping or make it a clip, I would say, that Kabar might not warranty it.

But, honestly, I have seen Kabar warranty quite a few blades that I would tell the owners to go fornicate with themselves over.

The best bet is to just not alter the knife, if you think it is possible that you would send it back, which, hasn't stopped me, and I've modded every BKT/Kabar I own in some manner, have beat the hell out of, and heaped some serious abuse on, and they really, really liked it.

Battered Becker Syndrome. The more you beat them the better they behave?

When you decide to bite the bullet and do it, I second using Klean Strip. And make sure you don't do it in too cold of an environment as it hinders the chemical reaction.

oh, it voids the warranty and then some, including all the way back to Camillus, Blackjack, and the original shop. it offends the gods, and everyone within miles of you. just don't do it :)

plus you'll lose your Beckerhead number for secret contests like the "post a picture of your first Becker knife, unstripped" or something :>

even when KaBar pre-stripped the BK10 LEs, they voided the Camillus warranty ;) don't do it!

:D :D :D

Strip it, beat the hell out of it and loan it to your buds. They like it. It's the Harley bitch of knives.

I used Circa 1850(?) Furniture stripper. That stuff will eat a hole through your soul if you're not careful. Stripping gloves were blistering and burning me on the inside, plastic paint tray was melted. It took the black off, no problemo... Just might be a little stronger than necessary.

Dude, It's a Becker, not a Cold Steel. You don't need a warranty.

I literally laughed out loud on that one. Thanks, I needed that. How awesome would it be if we had some fat dude in a tight suit hacking the living bejesus out of a slab of cow with a bk9? Anytime I need a laugh, I YouTube cold steel.

if someone is willing to supply the cow, I got the 9 and fat guy part covered!

If you're willing to supply the cow I'll do it with a bk7 too.
I am sitting in the garage right now with 60 grit sandpaper. should make quick work of it.

"This is the cold steel battle sword. It will cut a starship in half and still split an atom. We're going to use some rope as a stand in for the starship, because it's the toughest stuff we've got, and then we'll show how sharp it is by throwing it at a milk jug full of water."

Jeez, Everyone has a Tanner quoted sig line hahaha.

Ok but as for stripping, get some kleen strip or whatever you guys use in the US/Whereever you are.

Give the blade a light sanding to break up the coating (you just wanna scratch it up, not remove it with the sandpaper)

Spray on/paint on the stripper...leave for 20 mins.

DONE!

already done. 60 grit sandpaper to remove the finish, 220 to even the new brushed look out. It was a pain to do, too.
