Does the knifes country of origin effect your purchasing?

Do you prefer your blades from a certain country? Do you avoid any places or materials?

I actively avoid knives of low build quality, mystery steel, and clones.
Where a knife is made is a couple of tiers down in the purchasing decision tree.
However, I have more knives that were made in the US, than I do knives from any other country.

I can't say I actively avoid stuff made in China but Chinese knives just don't tend to interest me as much. Looking over my collection, there aren't too many of them here and I see even fewer that I know will be sticking around. Whether that's a mental thing or coincidence, I don't know. But, knowing that a knife was made in the US of A does hold value to me. I like supporting the home team.

Highly prefer USA made knives but I've made a few exceptions here and there.
I mostly buy US made knives because they are usually a safe bet on quality.
I have nice blades from China, Taiwan, South Africa, and Japan as well though.
I scrutinize the quality much more if from a country outside of Japan or USA though.

Ironically enough, the few knives I've seen from South Korea didn't impress me at all. Their cell phones and copper pipe fittings are nice though.

As a maker Of fixed blade culinary knives I only buy a folder once in awhile. I avoid Mainland China and Pakistan. If you’d seen the “culinary” crooked slabs of unevenly ground junk steel people had brought to me over the years for sharpening, Well! It said Damascus and under $50 bucks online so I thought it would be a great deal? :rolleyes:I’d reply.nothing I can do will make this cut well! Do you garden? Use it for digging in your yard! People don’t waste your money on that junk

I am not from the USA but I am mainly into American made knives
You have great companies that make great products and it is a part of the orientation of my small collection

In general I prefer to avoid Chinese made products

In fact, the ethic of the company is more important for me than the country of origin

Absolutely it does.
I avoid things made in China whenever I can help it , and that goes double for hand tools which would include knives.
I love American made traditional knives the most but European and swiss traditional knives are also great.
Generally as long as it's not from China, Taiwan , Pakistan, Korea, or a vintage cheapo from Japan I'm fine with it.

I don't know that I have a specific reason, but I just dont have pride in my purchase when buying from those countries.

I avoid all things from China whenever possible and economically sound. I in fact will be purging the limited remaining Chinese made knives I own. Pakistan is also a no go for any knives but those are mostly found on big stores with all kinds of crap from A to Z and sell it yourself aka become a scammer sites.

Where a knife is made is of no consequence to me.

The ethics of the company that made it are of great import to me.
Spyderco and Buck come to my mind first..both demand quality from their overseas suppliers.
