Does the knifes country of origin effect your purchasing?

I will say while China is on my list to avoid I do get tempted by Reate, Kizer, & WE and occasional items from companies such as Boker & Spyderco/Byrd. The end result is given the choice I will still spend my money on other knives I like from other locations so I will need to run out of good knives from places outside of China and Pakistan that I can afford before I start buying the ones that are likely fine to purchase.

I'll buy any knife made anywhere if I like the design and the price of the knife and as long as the price is justified based on the quality of construction and materials.

Otherwise, made in the US, China, Taiwan, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, England , whatever . . . which BTW are countries where all of the knives I own were made . . . it doesn't matter to me.

although I do prefer to buy made in the USA items, it's not a deal breaker. I have some cheaper knives that are made in China, but I would not think to buy anything expensive from there when I can spend that money on a US manufactured knife.

I'll buy the knife I want, but for some reason, knives made in China dont appeal to me, I dont avoid China made knives, I just dont like the knives

Will not buy ChiCom anything anymore but I have a POS S&W knife from there and a couple freebies that came with gun purchases (a little Browning and Chinese Buck). I'm not a knife *collector* per se but I own quite a few knives -mostly Victorinox, Benchmade, and Buck. Also have some Utica Cutlery pocket knives (my late grandfather was a VP there in the 60's and early 70's). Our kitchen knives are mostly Wusthof and J.A. Henckels

To a certain extent, yes. I try to stay with quality makers and avoid China. After the trade war and covid-19, I'm avoiding China whenever possible. Especially for something like a knife, since the best ones become an extension of your identity.

All of my fixed blades are American made save a fallkniven and an oddball Svord. I do like my Spyderco folder and would never give up my SAK based on country of origin.

I find my self avoiding Chinese made knifes like the plague. Especially all the TI scales anodized with fancy blades. The fit and finish is always off and it's way over priced for what it is. I rather get a ZT, Spyderco, Benchmade, CRK, ect. I don't mind buying from other counties though, but China is a no go knife wise. (And try to avoid China when possible else where as well)

Prefer USA made. Have twobBenchmade, four Chris Reeves, a few Bucks, Case and GEC. My foreign knives are a few Moras and a Falkniven F1.

Had some Taiwan and Chinese but just like supporting USA makers more.

I won't say that I will never make an exception, but I prefer not to buy knives made in China. I typically stick to the US, Japan, and Europe; and I only have some from Taiwan because Spyderco makes them there. I understand that these days there are now some really quality knives coming out of China, and while not cheap they are less expensive because they are made there. I understand that this allows some enthusiasts to own great designs that they might not otherwise be able to own, and for those who do so I pass no judgement upon whatsoever. The fact remains, however, that there are just too many knives that I want to own from countries that don't leave a bad taste in my mouth for the Chinese knives even to make it on my list.

Yes. I only have a few knives- 5 customs made in America and an Opinel to loan to others.

I prefer American made knives. But I do have some Tai Chung knives that are nothing short of spectacular.

Can you share which knives from Tai Chung you are referring to? I spent my early childhood in Tai Chung and would love To add some knives from there to my small collection.

I avoid knives from China, not just because of the crappy quality I've seen in their products over the years, but primarily for political reasons. They are the enemy of my country and the free world. I wish I could avoid everything made in China, but they're making everything! Even my cowboy boots, which I didn't notice till I got them home. But I can definitely avoid buying Chinese knives, even if they are well made, as I am sure some are. I avoid Pakistan knives too, but mostly because they're crap. I would buy from Taiwan, or Japan. I like my American made knives, like Case. I only buy USA-made Bucks. I love Victorinox (Switzerland). And I have some very nice knives made in France, Spain, and England. I would buy from Germany, Italy (though my one Italian knife is not that good), Finland, South Africa, etc. So it's mostly just Red China and Pakistan I avoid. (I would avoid North Korea too, but never seen anything made there!)

I would prefer to purchase American whenever possible. The Chinese knives I have were designed in the US, but I don’t have any chinese designs (I think). There is a cost of having knives manufactured in China with the rampant intellectual property theft. They produce your knives on the cheap but they will also steal your design and start producing clones. That’s shitty.

Honestly, I’m more adverse to purchasing Russian made blades. I only have my Neon Zero left. I will not purchase any others...

Currently
5 from USA
2 from Japan
1 from Russia. Going to sell the Russian made, model just didn’t sit with my preferences.

When buying something non-knife related, say a watch. If it has Japanese movement I’m happy. I’ve had great experience with manufacturing from Japan and Taiwan. China can pound sand.

Many Spyderco knives, some of my favorites, are manufactured in Taichung.
