Does the sensation ever leave????

I'll be honest, while I'd like another knife, and I love how they look when they are shiny and new...

I don't need another knife besides my Fallkniven F1. Yes I'd like a Bark River also, but the F1 is all I need.

People shouldn't obsessively hoard things, it isn't healthy.

I need to sell or give away my 2 griptilians, and my izula.

Geez, that was like yelling 'free crack' out in front of a crack house.

Now where should I send my address?

:D:D

My urge to buy more knives has slowed down a bit (mainly due to tighter budget these days). But, since I'm not buying new ones, I'm nurturing my addiction by working on refining my sharpening/reprofiling skills. I find it to be very therapeutic. I frequently strop one or more of my knives while sitting & watching TV and sipping on a glass of wine. Very relaxing... :D

And, after putting nice, new edges on some of my less-expensive knives, I'm finding them much more satisfying to use. That's helped to at least partly quench my thirst to spend more $$ on other knives.

In essence I do agree. Typically it is mentally healthier to have less "stuff" around. It is well possible that I'll eventually reduce my collection to around 15 to 20 knives - difficult for me to go lower! My F1 would probably be in that select club, or perhaps my Roselli Carpenter.

I'm buying much less than before (about 6 months ago). Before I averaged 1 a week, now it's 1 every month and a half.

I feel that you should have variety but stick to good blades. Better getting a 400 buck Sebbie than 10 numbers of 40 buck CRKT M16s. Also I have recently set myself a limit of no more than 2 knives per model.

about 10 years back i sold many guns & most of my knives, swords & razors, all was fine for about 7 years & then i handled my 1st. great eastern , now the mania has come back stronger than ever. at least we know we're alive.

After seeing that Paramilitary 2 prototype, I decided I just had to have a Paramilitary. So, here it is...

Of course going into the knife store is always a mistake. I left with this...

I feel better now (for a while at least).

walked into wholesale sports yesterday to buy some ammo and walked out with 3 boxes of ammo, a benchmade bone collector(15020-1) and a waved endura.
I tried collecting stamps but then I saw a scrap yard scrapper 5 for trade and had to use the stamps to ship my end of the trade !!

yes, sometimes.

When I got close to age 50, I started to look around me at all the stuff in my life, and wonder what I was doing.

You've got to seperate your wants and needs.

I'm 52 and came to the exact same conclusion around two year ago. I sold everything except a handful of knives and two pistols and one rifle and one shotgun. I have purchased 4 or 5 knives in the last 2 years but have no plans to continuously buy anymore.

It's funny how your "wants and needs" actually change or take on the appearance of change with age.

Good post Jackknife.

My sickness is:

Buying a new knife, liking it so much that I have to buy another identical knife so I can put it away and use the other. That is sick

I'm a gear whore, but the specific type of gear goes in waves. Camping gear, hiking gear, climbing gear, computer gear, knives, flashlights, hell even water bottles. I'll get on a kick where a certain type of gear fascinates me, and eventually get bored with it after I've invested the GDP of a small nation in it. Sometimes it even happens with specific manufacturers. I always have my next fix waiting on the sidelines - I just don't always know what it's going to be.

I am relatively new to accumulating/collecting, does the endless want of knives ever leave after your bitten. Looking to you guys and girls that have been around for a while. You know what I am talking about, you get a new knife and instead of being satisfied, you are just out looking for another one. It really is a sickness!

Not really no, the feeling never goes away.
Sometimes something else takes hold a little stronger though (usually women or guns:p).

Does the urge to buy new knives ever go away?

It does actually.

The day you die.

BUT

By that time it's most likely that you've rubbed off on one of your kids and they pick up where you left off. It's a viscious cycle I tell ya!
