Does the SOG Aegis have blade play?

I would say yes. I used to work at a knife shop and 98% of all the folders (especially their assisted ones) over four years of working there had play.

My Aegis has zero play. In fact, of the seven sub-$100 SOGs I have, none has any blade play at all.

I don't know about the Aegis, but the Tridents that I've owned all had a little side to side play, but that comes with the SAT territory (sog asssited technology). The Aegis being a newer model may have been improved on that, but I haven't held one myself. It is a nice looking knife, full flat grind and a nice handle shape. I'll have to take a look at one at the next gun show :D

Mine has a tiny bit up and down. Side-to-side I was able to tweak out with a torx wrench.

I have a little side to side but no vertical. I could tighten the pivot screw a little but I like the fast opening and don't mind the minor play it currently has.

I have an aegis as well as a flash I and both blades have a little side to side play out of the box. Like above, I could prob. tighten the pivot to remove the play without messing with the assisted opening too much but it hasn't bothered me enough to do it yet.

The aegis is a nice knife regardless and I'm happy its in my collection.

It will vary from knife to knife. Usually you can eliminate some side to side by adjusting your pivot screw, but if you have up and down, that's not as easily remedied.

I tried an aegis but sent it back because it was a horror show of blade play. After getting used to Spyderco, BM, and Kershaw, which can all be had at good prices with good materials and bank-vault lockup, I couldn't deal with this and returned the new aegis for a refund. I have a SOG mini-vulcan too which I love, but it also has a little play despite me adjusting the pivot. I'm not sure why SOGs have such a problem with play but I expect its because they usually use teflon washers and plastic handles with lower construction tolerances. I'm not trying to bash SOG, but blade play is a deal breaker for me and I can't imagine buying into another SOG folder any time soon without knowing for sure that the one I'm getting is solid. YMMV---the most important thing is that you personally like the knife in your hand, play or not.

My twitch 2 has alot of side to side play so much that when I use the knife it looks like it's bent an when I tried tighening the pivot I't just made the blade rub the liner:mad:

from the factory, it has decently solid lockup with a VERY small ammount of play. but this only lasts so long. if you take the pivot screw out,put on some removable lock-tight and then adjust the pivot, its all good from there. after that, you won't have to worry about it loosening up and you can get the pivot exactly as you'd like it to be.

DO not buy SOG, sure they were good 10 years ago, they have fallen off a steep cliff and hit the ground on a downhill slope. all of their folders have bladeplay. I was planning on buying a trident a while ago, but i didnt, to many reports of blade play. for the price they sell their knives at you can get a 10x better one from kershaw benchmade or spyderco

well when mine came it had lots of up-down play and a little side-side play. no matter what i did i couldn't get rid of the up-down play. the spring that engaged the lock bent after a little while. once i took the knife apart i saw that the locking bar didn't even fully engage. i soon realized that i will never buy another SOG again.

My Aegis Tanto is solid. My Flash 1 some play, but I was able to get rid of it by tightening the pivot screw.

Mine has a pretty good amount of vertical blade play, and just a hair of side to side.

I still like the knife, but I mostly use it as a beater knife because I don't really care if it gets damaged.

I've got a SOG Aegis which had some play that I couldn't adjust out as well. I contacted SOG directly and told them about the issue, they said to send it in for reapair which I did. It was back in my hand within 10 days without any play. They're service was great I've got a Vulcan Mini that should arrive Friday which I'm a little concerned about now that I've read these posts.

I've been wanting this folder, which is why I'm getting whatever info I can about it, especially the bad ones.

For an AO, I suppose "some" blade play, preferably only side-to-side as that can be remedied by tightening the pivot to some extent.
