Does This Dot Stamp Look Fake?

I just re-read my original post....Oops!!!! What I meant to say was that the dot was in way to perfect a location to be a test dimple. Besides, they normally test blades on the tang, where the dimple wont be seen once the knife is assembled.
Sorry for the confusion. :o

That's what I thought also.

Just for giggles and grins, say you had two knives in identical condition, one a two dot and one a three dot. Which would be the more collectable/valuable?

I still don't understand how the last dot came to be so much larger and deeper than the other two.

The dots are usually so uniform and alike....how did one get to be so different?

Was each dot done individually by hand at that time so that the operator could have just used a lot more force and made that last one a lot bigger, or what?

Definitely, the Three-Dotter.

Made only one year, so the supply of Three-Dotters is much smaller.

Last year of 440C and probably the first 110 blades heat treated by BOS.

Most importantly......there's a Three-Dot Cult developing.

:D

Then that might explain someone trying to fake it. They just got a little heavy with the hammer or used too big of a punch.;)

Does that mean that my three-dot 111 Classic is a collectable?

Ummmmm......yes it is......but only to somebody that likes 111s.

I'm in the 110-112 Cult.

:)

Thanks for the replies. The Classic 111 was meant to be a gift for a woman, but I found something more suitable for that occasion. So I still have it in like-new condition. The sheath is really nice tooled leather. It's not for sale.

HOWEVER my favorite 111 is the one Buck just sent me. It's the BCCI 2007 gold engraved one. The elk handles are gorgeous. I've got to get a better digital camera. I took a cell phone picture to post here, but it doesn't do it justice.

I DUC my 2007 once in a really great while..The gold is a lot tougher than you might first think! I also trimmed the sheath to make it a open top to better show off the bolster and horn..My brother gave me a lot of grief about that! BUT it looks great on your belt that way.
