does this knife make me look crazy?

You would only look crazy if you didn't have the knife... I live in East TN, and have a goodly portion of my backyard growing bamboo. Just by and by, b/c bamboo grows so well here the Knoxville Zoo was the first in the country to breed red pandas, if anybody cares about that sort of thing.

You look way more sane than half of the people I see in the mountains. Then again, if I pass you on the trails, I might sleep with an eye or two open. ;)

And where in the USA do you find bamboo growing wild?

Northern NJ, if you'll believe it. That stuff is a lot of fun to play with. After this I'm sure it can grow just about anywhere.

That was a great trip, and the snow shoes came ou really slick!

Bamboo really is just a japaneese weed . It is one of the most evasive plants you can deal with it. The only way you can contain it, once planted in a yard for decoration is buy surrounding it with three foot deep sheet metal. I have seen it run quite a mock on peoples propierties and causing a lot of fighting nieghbors . I would never plant it bye me that's for sure. An american plant you can compare it to would be a faster growing wisteria ,the plants that get the purple or white flowers in spring that look like grapes hanging from a vine. Wisteria is a vine though and needs other plants to grow up ,bamboo onthe other hand forms shoots that can reach 20 ft.

I know where I live in Wayne there are huge thickets (or groves) of it in random places.

Its really cool and fun to play around in. It is a site when it burns though, usually kids smoking drops a butt in the thick stuff they shed and it smolders for about 2 days until its in full burn.

When the stalks finally burn they sound like shotgun shells going off as the air inside the individual separations heats up and pops the shell.

Tons of bamboo where I used to live in NC. I battled it constantly in my backyard. Cut it level with the ground and a week later I'd have shit six feet tall back there. 24" Tramontina was my weapon of choice at the time.

My exact thoughts too! I don't know about you but that bamboo grove is sure crazy.

same. Interesting how this thread went offtopic so quickly.
I had no Idea bamboo would thrive in N.A., lest somewhere with snowfall.

Do you have a pic of your finished shoes?

If I found a bamboo grove and had my Lite Machete, I'd have that look in my eye as well. Looks like fun to me.

holy crap, a lot of replies here...alright 'fess up, how many of you clicked on this thread hoping deep down it's another man wearing esee panties? :barf: what a sick bunch you are :D

I don't think it is the blade brother .... I think your over thinking your actions :D

you're right! next time lite machete on one hand and the junglas on the other and i'll just spin around like helicopter blades in the middle of the grove :D

Took me awhile to see the blade....man what kind of drugs get you to look like that...:)

i'm high on life! well, maybe with a little bourbon mixed in.

And where in the USA do you find bamboo growing wild?

apparently all over the u.s. from the reply from others. i was shocked to see the grove myself last fall.

Makes your ass look big.

i knew i should've worn my black pants! it might help if i wear the esee panties next time.

Weird picture. Looks like it snowed in the jungle or something.

exactly! i always thought bamboos are in tropical-only climate but i guess not. never imagined i'd be chopping down bamboos with a machete with snow shoes around.

Very mache-sexual.

heck yeah. watch the fashion week in nyc next time. i bet supermodels would be strutting down the runway with lite machetes in the spring collection :p $800 coach leather sheaths anyone?

true. i've seen some pretty damn scary people in the nyc subway. i try not to make eye contact with anyone there as much as possible.

i work in wayne for a few years now. i've been pulled over a ton by the cops there (mostly tinted windows and after leaving the strip joint there :p) i'd imagine they'd respond with the whole swat team at the first hint of that shotgun shell sound!

i love bamboo. there's just so many uses for it including a ready-made water container, collector and friction-fire. i just wish it was native here and we have the kind that grows to 6" or more in diameter. one of my uncle who's a fisherman in the philippines still lives in his bamboo hut. he shingled his roof like this for a waterproof.

Bamboo = People around here just call it "cane." It usually grows in a patch for a few years and dies off. Then it will crop up somewhere else in the woods or along a road for a few years unless somebody bushhogs it down. When it grows next to water sources, then that is when of course the diameter and length of the bamboo gets the largest. I've used it to grow pole beans like the Kentucky Wonder and also to rig cane poles to fish with when a honey hole of blue gill is found.

i'm a shaman! that reminds me i saw a discovery chnl show regarding a new religion in california started by a bunch of pot heads/medicinal patients. instead of taking communion bread, they take a communion inhale :D takes freedom of religion to a whole new level.

maker's mark and an extensive first aid kit! aaron + axe + booze = we should be ready for a field amputation or two beforehand.

"Let me see you war face!"

that's also my look when i confuse an unleashed big, black dog for a bear on the trail.

It's not the knife.... ;-)

I really like the improvised showshoes!

thanks, man. i'm planning on participating on more upcoming contests. bamboo is a lot of fun to work with!

good info! for us we usually eat the bamboo shoots. it's like a vegetable to us although the only ones i've seen here in the u.s. are the canned variety.
