Does your favorite ruin the party?

When it comes to my EDC I'm really not a 'rotation' person, meaning I tend to carry whatever knife is my favorite at the time. Currently it's a large carbon fiber Sebenza 21.

When I ask if your favorite ruins the party, what I mean is when you get a new favorite knife and you feel like it's a step above your other knives...do you question whether or not you should hang on to them?

The only 'stranglers' I've held on to are my RAT 1 and a BM 943 that's on its way to me. It doesn't help at all that I'm a frequent buyer & seller of knives either. I know some of you guys keep nearly everything you buy but I must be stuck in between a collector and a user. Sometimes I'll amass 10 or so knives then sell 'em off like hotcakes and only hang on to a couple. I can't fully explain my behavior.

Thoughts?

Usually my newest and/or fave knife stays in my pocket for a week or so, but otherwise I'm pretty religious about rotating.

I also try to stick with one knife for as long as possible.
But I never sell knives, because the second I do, I'll want it again.
Plus, my future kids will have some cool stuff.

Of course not. Me neither, but it's fun.
I usually carry one specific knife, and seldom switch off unless I buy a new one to check out. I don't keep many at all, and normally sell one or two in order to buy a new one.

I have whittled my folding/carrying knives down to just a handful of favorites. They all sit there in a neat little row and I grab whichever one suits my fancy at the time. One day this one, one day that one, some days more than one.

Interesting question.
I know what you mean in regards to hanging on to the old ones when a CRK, or something else shows up.
Personally, I have a really hard time letting go of any of them. Even the cheap ones.
Cheers

This sounds like my more often-than-not routine.

I hang on to most knives, but as of lately the whole favorite ruining has been occurring more than it use to. My 0561 has been taking over my pocket, but the Endura 4 is still close in second.

I don't think I will ever find one knife that renders all my others obsolete.
Normally I will switch out my work knives every day then sharpen them all on the weekend.

I just got a ZT 0550 and have carried it all week so far but I am pretty sure it has not ruined it for the rest of my babies.

Your system is better than mine. I buy and ones I don't like so much anymore sit. I don't like selling them as often later down the road I want to use them again. At least you don't stockpile like I do.

I have a few favorites. Rotate between a SnG, CQC-13, Horseman. Custom fixed blade at work when I feel like it, sway back jack, always in my watch pocket.

I used to carry the newest, until the next new one showed up. But i got so schizo with this that i didn't really carry one for very long. So i started a mini experiment where i am only carrying one EDC for a month at a time. So far I have done this with a Grayman Dua and a Spyderco Sage, it has been pretty fun getting to know each one for a while. I am thinking of carrying a Sebenza for a month followed by a Rat 1, might be interesting to compare the two and see just how nice of a knife i really "need" for every day.

I like keeping them.
If you don't carry one for a bit and it sits in a safe or drawer, then some day you find it again and BAM!!!...it's like getting a new knife all over again. :)

I was collecting for a while but I hated having safe queens collecting dust and the ones I carried I wasn't overly crazy about. So I traded most of them. Now I carry one that I love and have just a couple as backups. Ive always liked the idea of having one knife like the grandfathers that carried the same buck knife everyday for 30 years

I don't have as many folders as some folks, but I like the ones I have enough to hang on to them. I could carry a different one every 3 weeks, and not get back to the the beginning of the rotation for over a year.

I have in the past had super hard times trying to get rid of knives, not that I couldnt, but because I for some reason felt like I always needed more, and couldnt bring myself to get rid of them. Well, then one day I realized "Theyre just material possessions. Pick a handful you like, and then get over the rest." since then, ive given away about 20 knives, all in varying price ranges, and im down to three folders, and a few fixed blades.

At the end of the day, everything we own is just "stuff". and "stuff" isnt important.

^ for the win.
