Does your Quench Oil Temp REALLY matter? HT 1084

That's the same price I paid for Parks? $96 for a 5 gallon bucket plus shipping.

I just bought 5 gallons of parks, as far as I know Kelly Cupples is the only source for 5 gallon quantities now and it's 150 plus shipping.

I called heatbath and they referred me to Kelly.

Just in case anyone else is buying from him, he ships it in a 5 gallon bung hole type bucket so you will need a different bucket or tank for quenching.

I haven't ordered yet (I'm out of the country for the past 2 years and for the next 5 months), but have been told that maximoil has 5 gallon buckets of it. maximoil@hotmail.com is the e-mail. Not sure what they are charging though.

Yes. I bought it from Maxim last summer. At that time it was $96 plus shipping.

I paid like 130 from Maxim. Shipped pretty fast and they were great to work with.

They may, but they are a subsidiary of heatbath and the person I talked to at heatbath said Kelly handles all 5 gallon sales, I took her word for it.

I've had a hard time finding a metal bucket with a lid too believe it or not. I have one that's over 50 years old full of rancid bearing grease I think I'm going to have to clean out.

No one around here sells them new and so far I haven't found any industry that uses them except the place I Work, and they don't let people have them for environmental reasons.

Same here, we bought ours from Maxim to. About the same price.Which makes sense we're both in Kentucky I wont be long before we need to order more.We have had it for at least 6-7 years and we're down to about 2 1/2 gallons Id say.. It never goes bad but eventually you will use some with day after day quenching a dozen things a day(My wife uses it to heat treat her strikers forged from W1)..A drip here and there, what sticks to the part it will eventually add up believe it or not.

Do you notice any evaporation? I have half of it in an uncovered pail and I don't use it anywhere near as often as you guys, but the level has gone down quite a bit in about a year and a half.
I think I'll get a big ammo can to keep it in next time I get up to the herbfest (not that kind of herb) lol.

You know its funny you mention that. I was just in the shop to turn the heater on. I looked and I was wrong. I said 2 1/2 gallons, I bet there isn't 1 1/2 gallons left :grumpy: Ours is in a large stainless cooker with a lid but the lid is not air tight..You have me wondering about some kind of evaporation now..
I just emailed maxim to make sure they still sell it..Ill post the answer when I find out for sure.

Thank you Kuraki for the info about those ammo cans. I had some trouble finding quench tanks with suitable height but at the same time were not too large in volume and that first one looks like the ticket.

A dandy quench tank is to weld up a 6" piece of pipe with a bottom on it about three feet tall..even better still is tap it to accept a hot water heater element..When we order our next batch of oil Im going to make one like that.

I'll jump on the Maxim bandwagon here - I got my 50 in last week and it was $130 shipped to Georgia. They were great to work with and it was delivered a couple days after speaking to Carla.
