Doesn't the large Sebenza seem gigantic after carrying the small?

I've been carrying for several days my newly acquired and pre-owned 2012 small Sebenza 21. Its a small knife by just about anyone's standards, though I have yet to find any suburban EDC challenge it was not up to.

Small Sebenza 21.

After getting used to the diminutive size of the small, the large Sebenza - and especially the Umnumzann - seem gigantic in comparison. This is not a bad thing, but now that I am used to the small, its big brothers seem to have more blade than I am likely to ever need. This is of course not literally true, as there are times when nothing but a larger blade with do the trick. But I am finding that the ~3" blade and 3.0 oz countenance of the small Sebenza is more than adequate for just about anything I may require.

On a side note, I stripped a pin on the small Sebenza (yes, stupid), and $9.50 later a new one is on its way to me.

I have 3 smalls 2 mnandis 1 umnumzaan
to me the Um seems "right" for any home or wild adventures, the small is right for EDC adventures
none of them seems over or under powered

the small is a lot of knife for edc, even compared to other 3" knives, for me it's the right (daily) EDC size (too big for afternon edc, there I have Mnandi, Slipjoints or many others)
it does pack enough sturdyness, weight, thickness to (as you said) handle most chores effortlessly

still feel the "need" for a large 21...

After years of having a Large as my only CRK product, I was surprised how little the small seemed. I thought I'd never get used to it. Now that I've owned one a couple of months, I've come to really appreciate how useful it is for most of my needs and I love the jewel like feeling it has compared to the Large. It's interesting that it only has a few less millimeters of edge compared to my favorite Spydercos, the Para 2 and the Caly 3.5 and yet it's so much more compact, and it feels more solid, too.

I have several larges and two smalls. The small snakewood gets about 75% of the pocket time these days. Go figure.

I agree, I have both small and large Sebenzas and there is a significant difference in size between the two. I've always thought that a "medium" Sebenza would be perfect - maybe a 3.25" blade with an overall length of about 8". Not too small but not too big either.

The small sebenza was the first CRK I purchased. I sold it after about a week due to its diminutive size. About a year later I picked up my first large and it was a match made in heaven. I agree there is a HUGE difference in the "feel" between the small and large. Different strokes :D

First off, im loving that "scothbrited" large you have there Powernoodle:thumbup:

I do agree about the size comparisons. Ill carry one of my smalls for a good week or so, and not even look or handle a large sebby or umnum. When I go to finally get one out, im amazed at how large it is. The smalls are a perfect edc size.

I always thought the small was, well, too small. Then I got one. It's perfect. Carrying a large 21 with Micarta inlays now and, well, it seems big now:p

I've had perhaps four "smalls." I don't have any now. I have large Sebbies and my first CRK, my Zaan. I prefer larger knives, generally with blades of 3.5" or so.

just traded my small, kind of miss it. While the knife's handle to blade ratio looks perfect and maybe it is, when gripping the handle the knife just didn't seem to feel secure and I have smaller hands. My small was an edc too. Have always wanted to try a large, but the large just seems a bit too big. Maybe the sm micarta will do the trick.

I have always thought the 3.25" would be perfect. I always liked the small better than the Lg. It seems about the size of a jack knife that has been so handy and popular for so many years, but with locking blade. I always felt that the lg. was just too large and a little too heavy for my EDC tastes. I gave it another try recently and am really starting to like my large a lot and it will certainly have it's place, though the 3" is still a more practical EDC IMO. The comparative size difference is due to everyhing being larger-blade length and width as well as handle. When people see 3" to 3.5" they tend to think of only the blade length.

I felt the same as you and sold my small for the same reason. Initially I felt the large would be *too* large so I held off, but I finally broke down after a while and bought one. I can honestly say there's never been a knife that felt better in my hand. Give it a try!

I think the consensus here is that we need a Powernoodle edition Sebenza with a 3.3" blade, full flat grind, ceramic ball, . . . .

I use to have a large... sold it and a year later decided to try out the small. I love it. Recently I went to a local knife shop and saw the large in the display case and the word "gigantic" came to mind.

I have no idea, but i feel this way as well. i had the small first, then the umnumzaan. For some reason or another when i got my large seb, it just seemed -much larger- yet the Umnumzaan is fine :/ Not gonna get rid of it though, and look forward to the 25. Cheers~
