Good f$%#in lord Evolute... Is that for real??? Damn! Glad to hear you're feeling better. Sorry, gotta say it one more time.. DAMN! That reaffirms why I always wear tick spray, though the biggest concern in my area is Lyme disease. Had a few people I know get it. Stupid little ticks :(

I was think'n Knaak and Jody were thinkin they were late for the opening of Blade and that all the good INFI was going to be gone!

No, that was me this year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those three are now required by GA state law to stay at least 200 yards from each other. One is not allowed to get anywhere near shrubbery of any kind.

Glad to hear you're feeling better.

Thanks.

I want to make clear that I was heavily covered in DEET. From now on. I'll be using DEET+Permethrin+full mosquito netting clothes, here onward.

the biggest concern in my area is Lyme disease.

In the county I picked up RMSF, mine was the first reported case. RMSF is almost unherd of, in the whole state. Sometimes weird things just happen.

Umm... yeah. That's the phone number for the Dr. who was on call for the attending Dr. at the emergency room. You go ahead and give that number a call, Romeo. :p

Now that's a scary thought. I've had some very good luck using Deet. Guess this shows that nothing is 100%. If you don't mind me asking, what "neck of the woods" were you when you got this?

On a side note, I checked out your website. Some beautiful pics. You do some real nice work

I was at the Audubon Preserve, near Lake Isabella, in the town of Weldon, in Kern County, California.

Yep, had to sober up for work :( Give me a couple hours though. Today's my Friday, so I'll be nice and toasty after work ;)

What do you use for a camera set-up for pics like that? Also, do you edit out the background in Photoshop or is it just a matter of how you focus in?

By the way, here's what I was photographing out there, when I picked up RMSF:

What's the hunting limit on them birdies? How many to make a mess of them?

Seriously, Gret you are getting over this. Never had it. Don't want to try it!!!!

I'll keep you in my prayers. Keep us informed on your progress.

What do you use for a camera set-up for pics like that?

I was using a Canon 1Ds Mark II camera with a 600 mm f/4 IS L lens and a 2x teleconverter, on an Acratech Ultimate Ballhead V2, with a Really Right Stuff L bracket quick release plate, on a tripod (a custom job that is not available). The shutter speed was 1/1000 of a second, f/8, ISO 800, with a Canon 550 EX flash in high speed mode. My light meter mode was spotmeter, and my exposure modes for the camera and the flash were manual. The lens had autofocus switched on, the camera's autofocus mode was AI Servo, then I overrode it for fine focusing manually. The picture was triggered with an electronic cable release. I was at the exact minimum focusing distance of the lens... I think about 17 feet from subject to sensor plane.

It helps to be in the right place at the right time, which is why I traveled nine hours by car to get to the hummingbird migration at its peak, when there were thousands of hummingbirds coming through per day.

Also, do you edit out the background in Photoshop

No! I don't do that crap in my nature photos.

is it just a matter of how you focus in?

Yes. With this lens, aperture, subject distance, and circle of confusion size, I had a depth of field just .003 meters thick (from 5.699 meters away to 5.701 meters away). Meanwhile, the nearest background object was about 75-100 feet behind the subject.
