Today we took a drive from Santa Cruz to Big Sur. We spotted a roadkill Raccoon but decided not to collect the pelt and drove on. So no skinning Raccoon photo. And no new fur hat.

At the Bixby Bridge, we took the inland route along the Old Coast Road.

Stopped along the way among some small redwoods

a tiny creek with watercress. I love moving water.

Along the way we crossed a couple of bridges, here is one

We then came out to the coast,

where we spotted Deer, Vulture, and California Condor. I was unable to capture the birds on film, but here are some of the Deer.

When we got to Big Sur town, I went to the river, which is quite small, and had a cup of tea.

As dusk fell, we headed home after a very pleasant sojourn. I hope you enjoy the pics.

This Puukko was rehandled by sitflyer and gifted to me, for which I am deeply grateful.

That was great!!!!

Thank you Jon!!!! I don't get the chance to travel much anymore so I really enjoy these photo travelogs which include great knives!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Your pictures did a fantastic job of making me homesick. Great looking knife and scenery, thanks for sharing  looks like you had a wonderful trip

Nice pics and a nice knife, Jon.

Great pics and great story :)

I more than enjoyed the photos, what a great day out! The dog chew is such a nice knife! well done again on winning that!

Loved all the pictures Jon but the one suspended between the barbwire was my favorite!!!

Thanks for those...

What a nice time. Very inspiring. Thanks for all the great photos. Mike

Brings back memories. My Mom used to take my brother and I camping out near Jade Cove every summer. Good times.
Thanks for posting this.

Neat knife, great pics, thanks for sharing. Looks like a 87-91 Westy Syncro, locking diffs front and rear, with TDI conversion? possible south african 4 headlight conversion? Sweet ride, whatever it is.

Glad to see Bixby Canyon did not get burned up in the recent fire. Many folks stop and take photos of Bixby Canyon Bridge and have no idea that is THE Bridge and canyon from Jack Kerouak's Big Sur. I love some of his books because of his traveling on the busses, rails and roads of a time long gone. He even mentions a pocket knife in one of his books, trying to find the quote.
Great photos!
The river must be low so little rain.
Thanks

Thanks everyone for the kind words

the one suspended between the barbwire was my favorite!!!

I agree, it was so delicately balanced it actually rotated in the wind. The hair is from Deer jumping the fence. Fun to share.

yes, yes, yes, and yes, you certainly know your Vanagons. I have no idea how you figured out the front and rear locker. Its a 3 knob unit, including decoupler and solid shaft.

another recent thread with more pics of the Dog Chew and Syncro

Jon, you sure do visit some beautiful places! Thanks for the take along with those great photos:thumbup:

Thanks for taking us along Jon. My only journey today was Christmas shopping. The scenery wasn't nearly as nice!

Cool knife... Lovely photos... I need to get there some time. I just got into Scandinavian knives. I have a Wood Jewel Puukko and a bunch of Mora knives I've purchased in the last few months. I'm hooked...
