Dog Father

So it's safe to say the sheaths will fit the CGFBM's? If so I'm headed over to get one DF and three sheaths for my naked FBM's. For those asking I agree with the above posters. Resp-c is much more comfy than Micarta, however it is not nearly as abuse resistant as micarta. I once damaged my basic #9 handle. (I was hammering the spine through a log with a claw hammer mind you) And tried to fuse it back together by melting and reforming it while it worked O.K. it stayed soft and eventually deteriated. I am in no way bashing Resp-c I LOVE IT! And as far as comparing it to other soft handle materials kraton...ect you can't. Resp-c is superior.

I picked up a few...will keep one.

The extras are for folks who later decide they should have had one. I'll let them go for the same price I paid.

This is 'paying forward.' Others have helped me...and I choose to keep that chain going.

I had to get one. You guys talked me into it. That's what I'll tell my wife anyway! Actually, I just won't tell her!

Seems way too good to let pass. Just look at some of the other junk out there that costs so much more but can't come close to matching the performance to the cost.

What is mad dog trying to do now~

No matter how hard they try, they just won't turn into HOG :p

Nice try, no damage to my wallet :D

Well, the DogFather fills a need for a knife in an affordable range that will not fail like this:

I ordered 2 DFs and 1 sheath for myself. I am considering purchasing a few more to have on hand for Christmas presents. It is really just too good a price to pass up.

Geez! I've got some of those. Never used them. Now I'm glad I never had to depend on them!.

yes, both the trailmaster and the recon scout have a guard. They are also 0.315 inches thick, though it does not seem to help.

Do you know how it broke ?
While battoning it into the wood ? or by prying to split the wood ? etc.

in the orignal thread, the owner was just batoning the bladei into the log when it snaped. That is the second one that has been posted that broke like that, right at the handle blade juncture. The break was in the shape of an S. Lack of radiusing the transition from the blade to the tang, I am sure helped it break.

That's for sure such transitions create high stress level's but still a pretty weak performance for a blade that thick :thumbdn:

True, but it's a hit or miss with these blades, much like Ontario knives, you might get one that is awesome and you will get more that are not.

I can tell you that I would not throw these knives into logs consistently like I do my Busses. But I have thrown them and that is why I will not if I had any left.

The DogFather looks to be a great user. I hope so anyway. I bought me one to replace my old CampTramp I let go a while back. Anyone know the steel? I can't find it on the site anywhere. Not that it matters much I'm sure its good and already bought now so it isn't like I'm thinking it won't work. Just curious.

Thanks

The Dog Father is made from SR-77 steel, which as far as I understand, is S7 steel on steroids.
