Dogfather vs Battlerat

No pics, but I've had both. I like the Battle Rat better.

The SR-101 definitely holds it's edge longer. There's a significant difference just chopping wood. The DF will still chop when it dulls some, but the finer edge is lost. This doesn't happen so quickly with the BR, it takes a lot more punishment to dull it. SR-101 rocks.

Another thing is the overall feel between the two. I like the balance of the BR better. I had the CG version of the DF, and I've heard that the LE has better balance. If you're looking for just a chopper, then the tip-heavy feel of the DFCG is great. But the BR chops just fine, and feels like you can do a lot more things with it that a smaller knife can do, as well.

The BR was the first knife I ever bought from Swamp Rat, and before any Busse Combat knives, so that might sway my judgement some. I still have it and use it, too. My DFs are with somebody else now.

What Greg45 said. I much prefer the feel (and steel) of the Battle Rat- but I like versatility. The DF, I think, is a better chopper- but I have much better choppers. The BR feels like you can do anything with it. I was pretty amazed at it's feel when I got it, and still like it every time I pick it up and I just can't say that about the DF.

I'm agoraphobic, don't make me leave the comforts and safety of the Busse forum!

You can throw a Basic 9 in too!

lmao!

Don't have the DF but I love my Battle Rat! Like a lot of the Swamps blades for me...just feels perfect!

My Battle Rat was my first Bussekin blade and is still one of my favorite long knives.

Battle Rat +1.

I have both and the BR...
1. Has a more balanced feel
2. Is a "slightly" better size for an all-arounder
3. The choil on the BR is more comfortable
4. SR101 steel is better for my purposes as it will keep an edge longer
5. I like the lack of thumb ramp on the BR

Note that the DF will outchop the BR and is an amazing blade in its own right.

Here's a pic from snowboarder. Vox is right...the flat spine is a big plus to the BR .

I love the battle rat so much that I bought extras:)

NICE! Thanks for the shout out T! Although I loved the Dog Father, I can never part with my Battle Rats...

The black on black that is.

Weight and performance wise the DFCG has the ultimate chopping ability with Res C comfort .... the BR has a curved finger choil and flat spine but not quite the size and weight .... both are great knives and from my use of the DFLE I have'nt found the flat choil uncomfortable to use and the thumb ramp works for me to position my thumb in front of it resting back onto it .... it is one of those things where you could do with having both in hand to appreciate the differences in size and feel. Personally I like the DFLE best of all .... but all are great choices.

I just picked up a battle rat, mainly because no one wanted to sell me a dogfather for less than a bushwacker mistress.

If a dogfather pops up i'll snag that too, but now I have to replace my NMFBM.
