Dogs: Backpacking in the Winter

Whatever you elect to get I would suggest the following scotch guard the material so it becomes somewhat water resistant if not so already, also make sure that the more vascular parts of your dog are insulated. Having dog mittens are a great thing as well.
 
We use a wool blanket for Scout.

I got a buddy that bought a childrens sleeping bag (cheap - walmart) for his dog. Suggest you get something like spongebob squarepants for the entertainment value. :)
 
I have two yellow labs. The older one absolutely hates blankets etc. The younger one likes to roll himself up in blankets, a real PIA when you've just made the bed, don't tell him, but it is cute. My main concern is them getting ice inside their pads, and getting problems from that. Whenever they play in the snow, I always check their pads when they come in.
