Dogs Vs Cougar !

Neither dogs nor cat seemed intent on serious harm until that last frame. Shows the sudden speed with which things can change. I hope the dogs came through O.K.

Study animal behaviour all you like, but you can never be completely sure what is going on in there.

Bill

I was wondering when it would get close to home for you Pit. I wish good luck for you and the dogs.

Interesting video, kinda wonder what happens after they run out of frame. Where I live black bears have been making a big comeback. Although I haven't run into a direct confrontation between them and my 2 pits yet, we do see a bear or two once a week and I know it has the potential to happen. With the bears in mind I started keeping an old remington 870 locked up but handy near the door. The 1st 2 rounds are just a homebrew wax/rock salt blend "slug" but after that it's all Brenneke solid core slugs, and I almost always have a concealed carry pistol with me. I'd hate to have to shoot a bear or something like a mountain lion but if it was posing a threat to my dogs I wouldn't think twice about it. just look at those dopey faces, can't let my boys get hurt/killed.

The golden retriever is my lady's parent's dog

You really don't even have to call your dogs away. Some people have said distracting the dog may be dangerous for the dog. If you just started making yourself look big and yelling at the mountain lion, anything you could do tower lots of noise, fire a gunshot, bang on pots and pans. Wild animals have been kind of naturally trained to avoid humans and human populated areas. While they may be bold defending their turf to human intruders or curious enough to roam into our area they know better than to confront humans. And even if we say "well the dogs and mountain lions don't look like they want a fight, if that mountain lions as "small" for it's species it may be would seriously harm one of those dogs. If that guy put down his camera and went out yelling at the lion along with the presence of those dogs I bet that thing turns and runs.

On a side note it is interesting to see how domesticated dogs stl have that natural instinct to surround and pester a larger animal, staying aggressive while still knowing not to get in too close.
