Grizzly/Cub Piggyback rig
Grizzly
total length 13-1/4”
handle length 5”
blade length 8-1/4”

The Grizzly is based on a classic Mountain Man style camp knife but has been updated with modern steel construction techniques. In the classic backwoods principle of one thing with many uses, the distinctive step in the spine at the tip gives several advantages; first it adds a little extra mass to the tip of the blade to increase the efficiency of a chopping motion. Second it provides a handhold for draw work. Third it helps prevent a baton from glancing off, and lastly it extends the length of the edge without extending the length of the blade. The convex grind, combined with 5/32” o-1 steel, gives a very efficient blade geometry without compromising blade strength or edge retention.

total length 7”
handle length 3-1/2”
blade length 3-1/2”

The Cub is based on that workhorse of every house - the paring knife. This blade will handle the 90% of knife tasks that are awkward and sometimes dangerous to do with a big blade. The cub will do everything from cut cord to fine whittling/ woodwork or dressing game.

The piggyback rig. This outstanding piece of leather work by Rick Lowe brings everything into one convenient to carry package. The rig is so versatile that there are 32 different configurations and counting. The shoulder strap is adjustable for length and has steel quick release clip and swivels. This spreads the weight of the rig but can be quickly removed for belt or pack carry. Possibly the most distinctive characteristics of this rig is the removable Cub sheath. The cub sheath can be removed and carried on the belt separately from the Grizzly. There is an Altoids tin pouch for those that like to pack it light but not freeze at night. The leather pouch attaches to the shoulder strap and fits a large altoids tin for all the little possibilities one might need.

Below is a link to a review Equip 2 Endure did of a prototype. Please note that all of these in this batch have lanyard tubes and the handle has been extended to almost 5”

Ditto on the cub! I'd buy the bloodwood cub in a heartbeat - it's exactly what I want in a small knife design. Bring it on as a standalone knife and sign me up!

During the designing and building of this piggyback rig, and several other sheaths for Dan, I've had the chance to handle the knives. Like most knife makers, when I get a knife in my hand , the first things I do is check the balance, workmanship and over all look. Haven't been able to find a thing I didn't like or feel comfortable with. Dan has paid his dues, learned the craft and you wouldn't go wrong purchasing his product. By the way, he only pays me for sheaths, this is a totally unsolicited statement and I don't many of them.:)

I just want to say I bought one of the Huntsmen at the Blade show and I really love it. Not only that but Dan was incredibly friendly to the guy who showed up to the show alone and spent a lot of time picking his brain about stuff. In the end I bought one knife and decided I wanted the one I should have bought in the first place and he was really great about getting me what I want. I love the knife and Dan is a great guy to talk to. Now I think I'm going to want one that I didn't pick up "off the shelf" so to speak. Hopefully soon I'll be carrying a Dogwood custom all the time! Great knives Dan and thanks for being friendly and helpful!
