DOH! new way to test sharpness... OUCH!

Secondly, and I hope this doesn't come off as too strange under the circumstances, but I can't help but be curious as to the 'work' you did on this blade to get it to this TRULY FRIGHTENLY SHARP condition. What did you do to touch up the edge on this knife?

Well, I used sandpaper with a leather strop for backing. Started with 1000 grit, then 1500, 2000, Then just the strop with black then green buffing compound, finally I worked it on a plain piece of paper for a bit.

If starting with a duller blade I would start with an appropriately lower grit and work my way up.

This technique is new to me but I've been practicing and have gotten rather good results (as you can see).

I'd sell that thor and buy another, unless you can form a pact with it to never draw family blood again.

I make a pact with all my blades, upon opening, i ask that they serve their purpose well, and I tell them what that is. And then I use them for that only. SO far I haven't been bit too bad.

Ha! Yeah, I hope that it's not too thirsty for blood in the future! But then if I got rid of every blade that cut me I wouldn't have any left!

I must say that when I got home from the hospital, I went and picked up the knife, and I know it must've all been in my head, but I swear that handle never felt more slippery in my hands! Maybe I'll try the pact thing like you suggested.

You think that maybe some virgin tomato sacrifice will appease the steel gods? ;)

No!:thumbdn:
Some virgin skateboard tape might.

Heal up quick. Next time GET OUT OF THE WAY!:) You can always have the tip reground.

I don't think I'd worry about that knife's tip-between the weight, the steel and the quality of the edge, I'd be more worried about the flooring, even tile

If it's any consolation there have been two hospital visits due to the new HEST in the last week, me being one of them. I pulled it out of its sheath for the first time and managed to slice a 4 stitch bone deep laceration across the inside of the 2nd knuckle of my left middle finger. I know it's no comparison to slicing your finger and your ACL with a massive knife named for the Norse god made by a renowned Finnish outdoor knife company, but...

damn. Thats just palin nasty.

nice knife though!

heal up and get out there for some chopping action!

And people say knives are no good as weapons!

That Thor is a nice blade! Some Trailmaster influence there methinks.

Firstly: Speedy recover man!
Secondly: That's awesome knife, congratulations of having that beautiful thing!
Thirdly: Congratulations getting your knife really sharp!

Ouch, good recovery to you! I know how it feels to get cut REALLY badly. I once dropped my Benchamde Dejavoo, and tried to catch it...the tip landed right in the bone of my ring finger and almost cut it off..anyway you did really get a nice edge on that Thor;)

Chopping out meat, cutting tendons... seems like the Thor would be a great hunting knife, eh?

Seriously though, try to look at it that way: It may be a painful and expensive incident, but at least you proved excellent sharpening skills and a decent knowlegde of first aid to the world.

Mental note to self. Dont buy super sharp knives and drop them ! Or if they do drop, let them hit the floor. I can always buy another knife !

Man hope for a speedy recovery. Being new to the knife world in a sense, I guess I never thought of the consequences of accidents with them.

OUCH !

maybe for skinning an elephant or a rhino, but I'm not sure I'd want something that big for deer.

I'll apologize in advance for this, but I couldn't help but be struck by the irony here. The knife that went a-fallin' was a FallKniven... maybe it's in the name? :p

Again, I apologize. I wish you the best...

FALL-KNIVE-N ...That's great! I'll have to pass that one on to the wife! :p

I'll stick to my traditional ways of edge testing.;)

Hope it all goes well for you and you heal up right.

Thanks for sharing.
