Dollar coin mokume gane??

I have been trying my hand at quarter mokume lately and have been wondering if the same process could be applied to "gold" US dollar coins. I know they are not actually made of gold but would the same process work? And was wondering if it would work if I alternated the quarters and the dollar coins together?

Just trying to see if I can get some different color combinations out it and trying to make sure it will work before I go throwing money into the fire!!

I would just use pre 1983 pennies and any nickels. If you really just have money to burn (or melt) then you could throw in some pre 1965 dimes and quarters which are mostly silver.
