Domestic supplier for Fire Steels?

Steve,

Please send me an email at phenskens@hotmail.com you don't have an email address listed and I seem not to be able to send an PM.

With your 5 Firesteels I think we'll be able to place an order Monday :).

Thanks for remembering me! :)

Exciting news,

Just minutes ago we received the Firesteels that we ordered last Monday, so you guys who asked them we will package them this weekend and they will start their journy Monday July 14.

Those who still have not replied but expressed interest, if you're not fast we don't have any spares left :) only the ones we needed ourselves.

Best Scouting wishes from Holland,

Bagheera

sounds good... thinned keychain out monday by buying a micra to replace 3 items(swisstech utilikey, buck minitool, and folding scissors)... firesteel will fit nicely now...

hey, I only have 3 coming to me... 2 large 1 small...

1 large will be on keys, and when I look, I'll decide which goes in kit... other will be sitting around here and most likely adopted by someone in this house.

raymears.com has firesteels for about $12 if anyone is interested.

Supporting Bagheera sounds good though :)

I'm a big fan of BlastMatch, and Strike Force, both manufactured by Ultimate Survival for their large diameter (1/2 inch) ferrocerrium rods. On the other end of the spectrum, the Boy Scouts put out a tiny firesteel that is about 1 inch long and under a quarter inch in diameter. You can find these firesteels where you buy boy scout uniforms and supplies.

There are quite a few suppliers out there... just use your favorite search engine to look up "ferrocerrium" or "ferrocerrium rod" and you will have about a dozen pages to sort through.

Recieved my firesteels today. First strike I took, I lit up a cotton ball. Im currently using the Scout model and it might sit on my keychain with some tinder. I did an unofficial comparison between cotton ball w/ vaseline and cotton ball w/ zippo fluid. The one with vaseline caught fire easier and lasted over a minute but it was a very small flame. The one with zippo fluid gave a huge flame and lasted just as long if not longer. Because of that, I soaked 3 balls with the lighter fluid and put it in a match container for tinder. Oh yeah, Bagheera is great to deal with!
