Don Fogg's hand filing/sanding technique?

Hi folks,

I was pointed in the direction of Karl Anderson's website for hand finishing techinques and on Karl's site he mentions, " I was lucky enough to learn this process from Don Fogg at the Ashokan Seminar in New York this past year.". It looks like he's using a large piece of steel (or file) that is wrapped with sand paper, and it looks like he's using a draw-filing technique
to finish the bevels/grinds.

Can anyone tell me just how this fixture is constructed and what this process entails?

Many thanks!
Dana

Go to this link, there is a ton of information there. Use the links towards the bottom of the page. Mr. Fogg shows lots of techniques and things in those links.

I was sure I saw it on his site, but I may be wrong. I just did a quick look and did not see it in the link I provided.

Sorry for the bad info. The page does, however have a lot of information you may find useful, as well as contact information for Mr. Fogg.

Let me tell ya, it works. I normally use a 1/4 thick piece of brass barstock and 2 inch shop roll sandpaper in 120, 220 and 400 grit. A sure fire way to flatten out those sctratches and tiny divets that you get from the grinder. I alternate between using the bar and my finfgers and have cut my sanding time in half.

This is the equipment he used;

Also, here is a short video clip that will give you an idea of Don's sanding technique. Sorry about the poor angle, but lots of others wanted to get a closer look too.

I just now got the chance to revist the site and found this that you
had replied with.

Do, does Don use the spray on adhesive to afix the paper to the
bar?

Thanks again,
Dana

I believe he also has also found abrasives in rolls from auto body shops that have adhesive backing on them already. It's always a joy to watch a demonstration by Don at a hammer-in!

Wow, that was a quick video. It ended faster than one of my lovemaking sessions! The first time it played I missed it completely.

The amazing thing is that it showed all thats needed for demonstrating the procedure. Thanks!
