Based on stories of the Yakuza, this is a large blade 11.375" long to the tsuba and 17.25" overall with a width of 2.375" at its widest. It was forged from 1095 high carbon steel and features an exuberant hamon with lots of activity and dramatic utsuri. It is flat ground on one side creating a sharp slicing blade. The original pattern comes from a Japanese whaling knife. The fittings are iron with gold plated seppa and nickel silver spacers. The handle is textured wenge with a recessed silk cord under wrapping and lacing over wrap. The blade has been polished to accentuate the hamon and is marked with my 24k gold cherry blossom.

I have to say I like that one a lot. Wow utsuri!

i love this one - very dramatic shape & the hamon really accentuates that.

This one was love at first sight for me. Even without the spectacular hamon, the broad bold blade shape really does it for me. Don rocks.

he never ceases to amaze me. Did you pick this one up Joss?

No - it took me 10 sec to decide to give it a shot, even with the $3k price tag (something I only do with pieces from Don), but it was sold already. Don sent the mail at 4am Pac time, so any Easterner had 3+ hours to mull over that before I even got a chance to read the email.

In case any of you folks wonder were the small dots came from in the hamon, that was old Don sweating blood with this blade... a big departure from his normal blade shape and another BIG feather in his cap.

Frankly, I'm very glad it's done. Him getting it finished has worn *me* out.:grumpy:

Flat one side blade. He's gettin' there... if I don't get ulcers first.

Beautiful piece! Congrats if you got this one, Joss.

Old man Fikes;)

Sorry to hear that, Joss. This was a magnificent piece. Don's struggle with getting it right was worth the effort. He nailed this one.

Amazing knife.
the kicker is I had a sneaky feeling we'd be seeing one from Don this week.
I would have, in a heartbeat.. mortgaged a kidney..

A spectacular piece, Don never fails to impress. Old Man Fikes, you crack me up!

It just may be that the smallest unit of time in the universe is the amout of time between a Don Fogg knife being offered and it being sold.

Thanks, Joss. This one was sold within minutes. I love the hamon, width and Japanese design of this one. What a hamon!

The hamon is just breathtaking.....not sure about the dinky tsuka-ito tho'....I prefer the standard tsuka wrap...

WOW!!!
