Don Hanson made me a beautiful Folding Dagger 12 months ago. It was his first of this particular style of folder and of the mechanical type which Don very rarely makes anymore. It turned out extremely well. About 7 months ago one of Don’s loyal collectors contacted me and made me an offer I couldn’t refuse.

Well soon after completing the transaction I developed seller’s remorse and contacted Don regarding him making me another. He agreed to do so and we pondered as to how to change it slightly however keeping #2 along the same design. We finalized the design and I selected a beautiful piece of ancient walrus ivory from a candy store of samples Don brought for me to choose from at the Blade Show. Don stated this was probably the most unique fossil ivory he has worked with.

This piece is sole authorship all the way down to the eleven 18K gold screws which Don turned with his small antique lathe. In my opinion, Don is one of the best at building a slim, symmetrical auto dagger where the blade doesn’t seem too short in comparison to the handle.

I’m very pleased at how this one turned out and as always it was a complete pleasure working with Don on this project. Don makes the collector feel so involved. His daily updates, photos and thoughts really add to the outstanding experience of his creating your knife. Coop worked his magic in creating outstanding images of the piece for display here.

Well here’s Don Hanson’s “Scary II” Folding Dagger’s specifications. I also included “Scary I” photo at bottom as reference. Thank you in advance for all comments:

Both inside and outside of the back frame are fileworked 18K gold strips and all liners are fileworked and anodized. Don’s accordion mosaic Damascus never seizes to amaze me. I call both the bolster and blade Damascus “scary things”.

OAL - 9”
BL - 4 1/4”
Handle Material – Premium Fossil Walrus Ivory
Blade Steel – Mosaic Damascus of 1084/15n20
Front & Rear Bolster Steel – Mosaic Damascus of 1084/4600E pure nickel
Hardware - Screws, fileworked release button and back and inner frame decoration are 18k gold.

Kevin, I noticed you sold your other auto (not the Hanson). Did the Hanson scare it away??
