Don Hanson: "Blues" Trapper (and a lot of bonus material)

Well yeah, I'll accept any of it, but if you had those two just like mine, I'd be wondering if our wives looked the same or something.:D

My sowbelly has the long, slim Turkish clip blade, I got it from Gus when he was selling off his treasures.

Tell you what Elliott, if the knife is already made, I do like a skillfully executed spey blade. Richard Rogers and Ken Erickson do them right, as does I imagine Tony Bose(lol).

Anyway, I'm really looking forward to that piece by Enrique with your pen blade modification.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I think it's like poker with slipjoints! :p

STeven, I'm quite sure you'll be very happy with Enrique's stockman and the modification I originally requested. I've requested such a change on several knives by Ken Erickson, Enrique, Kerry, Ken Coats and others.

It's nice to "have it your way".

I thought you may like this one Elliot. The ivory just feels great in hand.

Very nice, Peter. The ivory look first rate.

Love the Hanson, the man can do it ALL!

Here's a Ruple pattern I have always liked. I think he calls it a Texas Toothpick???

That's a beautiful example, Kevin. I tend to stay away from the knives with file work on the backspring as opposed to liners and spacers but that one would be too hard to pass up.

I've long felt there needs to be a stickied thread *somewhere* for stickly custom / handmade - slipjoint / locking traditional folders. I thought one day I would bring it up in the traditionals sub-forum, i thought it would go well next to the "old knives" thread, but it looks like it has a start..

Here is one of mine to keep the ball rolling

.. R.L. SMITH MS. 3 1/4'' closed. Flat ground ATS-34. Stabilized Maple Burl. Fully Coined liners and bolsters.

Love Don's 'Blues' Trapper!! Between all the linerlocks and fixed blades, Don has made some wonderful slipjoints.

Here is a Jerry Halfrich Euro that is a thrill to carry, while we are sharing.

That's a great looking knife, Joe. Love the way Jerry dressed it up.

I am fortunate enough to have the original "Euro" that Jerry made. Linerless carbon fiber...I just love how light and strong the knife is and the blade grind just knocks me out for some reason.

Interesting thread, lots of nice knives!

The Hanson from '94 is really interesting too, always good to see "early work" of knifemakers.

Kind regards,

Jos

Each piece holds the eye and has a draw all it's own for me, but the Hanson's and the Ruple's keep me coming back to look "just one more time". Outstanding stuff showing up in this thread. Thanks for sharing gentlemen.

Chris

Don, does this mean that I'll have a Hanson stock or cattle knife in pocket soon? (Well a guy can wish, can't he? :p)

The stamps look nice and clean.

I'm only into single blades, for now, Elliot. But maybe at some point...

The "Blues" trapper should be what you see when you look up "trapper" in any knife book.

Very kind of you to say, Marty. Don nailed it, for sure.
