What are you guys working on currently? We see you respond to our questions all the time, but I don't recall seeing any of your newer work in a while. I need a Hanson/Bump/Cashin fix. Any photos? I need inspiration!
Robert

Everytime I see Hanson post one of his bowies with a great hamon it makes me want to cry for two reasons - 1) I don't own it and 2) I didn't make it. :D

Robert, Thanks for the post. Im proud to be one you want to see some pictures from. I just wish I was smart enough to put them up here. I have a couple goin but the one that people may remeber is the axe/gun. Its been a year now since I started it. I could show it in the unfinished state if you are interested, also have a bowie or two. I should email them to Dan Koster and maybe he can put em up here.

you can send 'em to me if you want and I'll post them. I'd love to see some more of your work.

A couple of beauties of Bump's:

(love that bowie)

I forgot to add,

It is a takedown Bowie, i.e. it comes apart! Better yet, it doesn't rattle when assembled!

The axe is really coming along nicely, Bruce!

Any way you can get more close-up pics?

Truly a one-of-a-kind. Hope I get to see it in person someday....

rocker, thanks for including me with these great makers.
Here are a few I've finished in the last couple months. The integral is 1060 and ironwood with a 10 1/2'' blade. The daggers were sold at the NY show last month and the goldlip pearl folder was an order just finished. I'm finishing up some orders right now but will be all over Blade show knives very soon.

Take care, Don Hanson lll

edit - Bruce that shoot and chop is very cool :D

Look what you've done Don. I'm crying now. :D

That South-American style integral is amazing.

I had the pleasure of spending some time with Bruce and that axe/gun last October at the hammerin here in Spokane in addition to a pistol/knife he brought along. That axe/gun is an amazing piece. That bowie is a real beauty also. It's great to see another picture of that axe.

Yes - the integral in excellent, Don. Just wonderful. Nice autos too...what a spread!

Awesome knives Don!

Dan Koster has a good collection of original cut and shoot pictures. Thanks for sharing. You know what always impresses me is the "makers of old" didnt have a Burr King. Heck they didnt have electricity in the 1700s did they? I wish I could go back in time and clean the smittys of these masters. Boy O Boy what I could learn. I wonder how long it took them to make a finished axe/gun? Did they make a decent living for their skills or did they do it for the challenge and feeling of accomplishment.

Don - I love this integral.

Bruce, the axe is turning out absolutelly awesome. How long have you been working on it?

Bruce, the smiths made better livings than doctors of the era, but they also spent longer learning their trade.

Thanks rhrocker for pointing me in the direction of the "masters" that inspire you!I checked out Don Hanson & Bruce Bump's websites(I didnt see a reply by Kevin Cashin) and I am "Speechless". I swear Burchtree,I just wiped a few tears off my cheek. That work is truley something to aim for.I dont want to leave anyone out that posted here, all of the blades I have seen on this thread are unbelievable! Thanks again , "ALL".

Robert, when I read your initial post I thought I'd make a joke, "What, I'm dog meat?" :D Then of course I got a nice taste of what our resident maestros do for fun and naturally I realized, yep, dog meat. :D

Bruce and Don, absolutely stunning work. I needed a fix too. Dan thanks for the pics of the old axe/guns - I'm copying all these photos off to my inspiration directory so I can sit and feel inadequate once in a while. Just kidding, this is truly inspirational to me in every way. Thanks for sharing!

I am working up designs and steel for some rapiers and a few pieces on my impossible waiting list. I am sure I am not the only person who suffers from the affliction, but I am so bad at organizing my time that I seldom manage to get photos of much of my work. when they are done they need to ship, or I manage to finish them the night before a show and then they are sold there. I have some photos on my digital camera that I could look over and see if I pulled enough photography skills out of my hat to get one decent photo. ;)
