Don Hanson III, MS ~ Rob Connally's Four "Goldies" Collection

Great photos and beautiful knives.

Congratulations Caleb, Don and especially Rob for being able to acquire these super knives.

These are really very very very cool I knew Don was good but really this is like the highest level they have a art deco feel Hats off to Don wow

Rob, this four piece collection is absolutely stunning. Seldom do I see a Hanson that I don't love, but these four pieces, grouped together, rise to an entirely new level. And a great story to go with them, too. Wow, just Wow!

Rob, I know how proud you are of this set, and sure glad for you to put them into final group context.

Don made them randomly, and can't even recall the brilliance.... ;) :p

Yes, they are shown perfectly. Superb.

Good stuff.

Don, you're makin' me nervous!

I acquired the first one 7 years ago in 2008. It was the smallest of the bunch. I clearly remember calling Don when I saw it on a purveyor's site. It was the most expensive knife I'd considered purchasing at that point and when Don told me there were others out there I almost passed out. I knew I had to assemble them together into a collection. After much hunting the last one came home about a year ago. It's a pretty cool saga with some twists and turns. Might make for an interesting story for Blade or Knives Annual. Obsession and perseverance at it's finest!

Caleb, thanks so very much for your work with these knives. You managed to bring out great details from each and the group shots show how they relate to each other. The amount of communication and effort that culminated in this set of pictures is a saga in itself! Thanks for your tolerance!

Next??? I know there are full damascus variations of this design out there. So begins another 7 year hunt :D

Sorry Rob, just messin with y'all. No way I'd forget the time and sweat I put into these!

Thanks for the good words everyone!

Dear God, those are unbelievable. I can only hope that someday I will have the income to afford something with that astonishing level of craftsmanship.

Rob, what a great quest to put these together, they are beautiful!! Simply Don's work at it's finest. And thank you to Caleb for capturing it so richly and sharing it with the rest of us.

I'll be honest, I didn't know Don made knives like this and they embody the mastersmith title. Just mesmerizing...
