Don and I have talked about using antique tortoise on a folder for a while. Well, delivery was at Blade this year and I was stunned when I saw this knife with my own eyes. His first with tortoise. I love the damascus pattern and how it shows on the spine and between the scales. Looks like licks of flame in the metal that compliment the fire in the scales.

Gold leaf backed scales, 18k gold carved bolsters, 7 1/2 overall, 3 3/8 blade.

My daughter came up with the Tortuga name. She asked about the handle material and after I said it is tortoise she immediately said Tortuga.

Thank you, Don! We love the Golden Tortuga.

Great photo, Coop. Shows the fire in the scales and the damascus in a wonderful light!

I guess one could suppose that will be a daily user, Cut sausage, gut squirrels, clean birds etc........Right???

Rob, that is just plain beautiful!

You did good, Don.

Paul

That was easily one of my show highlights Rob - just a spectacular piece. The gold and tortoise compliment each other so very well - fire-like indeed. Love the agressive clip on this blade as well. Congrats!

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

Paul, this will be a user. It will be on my Hanson alter and I'll use it as an idol to worship. One of these days I'm going to snatch his baseball cap and set it up by the knives on display

Roger, it was a pleasure meeting you face-to-face at Blade. Now I can stop stalking you and enjoy the show in the future :D. Your John White D Guard bowie still haunts me in my dreams! I felt a bit odd eyeing it up with such lust with you right there watching me

That's a beauty, Rob. Don's folders are always beautiful, but they kinda become magical when he puts the gold into it.

Rob, it is always a pleasure working with ya bro!!! I love the name your daughter came up with, fit's this knife very well.

Coop did outstanding with the image!

Thank you, gentlemen!!!

Definitely one of my favorite of Don's many beautiful folders if not my favorite folder period.
The elements complement one another so-so well. It was a pleasure to examine it at BLADE.
Congrats Rob and Don.

VERY nice piece. The gold leaf backing works quite well, as do
the fileworkrd bolsters...
BTW...Don, how did you reclaim the filings...?

Russ, I put a sheet of paper under where I was working, drill press, vise, etc. And just tried to sweep it all up. Kind of stressful now days!

Thanks, guys!

My mouse is programmed to click on anything that Don Hanson makes. This one is especially cool!

Man, that would make a great drywall knife! Just kidding! Very nice - you really got that antique tortoise shell to pop.

Great knife Rob. Another smashing success from DH. That is one glorious looking folder. Everything just fits together and surely will be a centre piece of the collection of DH knives.
