I did this last year (actually Dec. of 2012), and it was fun and a success so I'm going to do it again. We are dog lovers in my family, always have been, always will be. I do what I can to support our local Austin Humane Society, which does excellent work for the pups (and other critters): http://www.austinhumanesociety.org/ At the conclusion of this sale, along with the two related sales referenced below, I will donate the total gross proceeds to the AHS. I'll post the receipt here in the thread, to show I kept my commitment and didn't blow it on knives! I ran this by our friendly neighborhood supermod before I did the first one, and he kindly gave me the green light (thanks, Mike). So, make a buy and help the pups!

The related “dog sale” threads are here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...to-the-Dogs-quot-Sale?p=13209044#post13209044 and here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...s-2nd-Annual-quot-Going-to-the-Dogs-quot-Sale

Up for your consideration, we have:

First, a group shot:

1) Browning Santa Fe Stoneworks Custom Model 308 Lockback. 3 1/8" closed. Solid lockup. Japan. This is a special knife and I haven't used or sharpened it since receiving it as a gift. The only way I can sell this one is for a special reason, and helping the pups is such a reason for me. I tell the story of how I received it here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-A-Huge-Thank-You-to-Diane-Carver-of-Browning

Includes original gift box. $60.00 SOLD

3) Kershaw OD-1 Model 1775. U.S.A. made. Lee Williams design. Rock solid frame lock. Has been sharpened and lightly used. I really like the Sandvik 14C28N steel---sharpens up easily and take a very fine edge.

Nice review here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/624381-Kershaw-OD-1

Includes clip but no box. $45.00 Now $40.00 SOLD

I would like to acknowledge a really wonderful gesture by fellow forum member Twindog (Josey). Josey saw my "dog sale" threads and told me that he doesn't need any knives at the moment but wants to help out anyway. So he sent me a very generous donation for the pups! It will be gratefully included with the total when the sales end and the contribution to AHS is made. In the meantime I'm trying to convince him to take a knife or two in repayment of his generosity!

Andrew

I can say that these "Going to the Dogs" sales threads have been a great success, thanks to the generosity and kindness of all the good folks who have participated. Every sale was smooth and friendly, some bought things they didn't need just to help the pups, and some paid more than I was asking! As I mentioned above, Twindog sent a generous contribution without buying anything!

The total gross proceeds were $429.00. When I did this last year, I added in a little extra to get the total up to $500.00, and I'd like to beat that this year. So, I kicked in a little more to get it up to $600.00, and made the donation online to the Austin Humane Society. I let them know that this was made possible by the good guys at BladeForums, and they e-mailed me the receipts and acknowledgements copied below.

I hope everyone enjoys their knives, and thanks again to all for doing a really good thing.

Andrew

Dear Mr. Forsythe and the generous supporters at BladeForums,

Thank you for your gift of $600 to the Austin Humane Society (AHS) on 2/25/2014. Your generosity is making an impact on some of the most vulnerable animals in Central Texas. Thanks to your donation, we are able to save the lives of animals that need our help today and provide programs that prevent future homeless. Your support touches the lives of over 11,000 animals like Hershey each year.

Meet Hershey. From the moment Hershey arrived at AHS, his affectionate and cuddly nature stole the hearts of our staff and volunteers. He loved everyone he met, whether it be another dog, human, or even a kitten! He was most happy when being carried, and actually enjoyed wearing a sweater when going for walks!

When Hershey’s adopter came to AHS one Saturday she immediately fell in love with Hershey and his adorable big ears. Hershey now spends his days as her little shadow, following her around wherever she goes and giving lots of kisses and cuddles along the way.

When you donate to AHS, you help us to transform the lives of thousands of deserving animals, just like Hershey, and change their lives forever.

Thank you again for your gift. And thank you for unleashing hope for Hershey and so many other dogs and cats each and every day.

Sincerely,

Frances Jonon
Executive Director
