thanks rolf. It's taken me a while to realize it, but I'm just not into them all that much. What really made me realize it was my STR slippie that he sold me not toolong ago. I've used it for everything for the past month or so and have NEVER felt like I was handicapped with it.

Happy 4th to you too man!

Brett,No doubt,a fixed blade will ,or should not, fold on you. Also, there should be no blade-play issues with one, either
Something like this,makes a nice pocket knife,too

hey vince. I've got some great smaller FB's and they work perfect for harder tasks.

Again, I'm not trying to beat up on anyone, just finally realized my true calling. Buying locking knives and being satisfied is like taking a leak in the wind. Just can't seem to get it right.

Brett,
I look at the not perfect lock on a knife(folder, obviously),as a backup & still use the knife as if it were not a locking blade
I've had a few that were REAL good.Kershaw gents,AG Russell boot,Moki Jess Horn...
I think though,the perfection,can vary,knife to knife
Knifenuts do go in "phases",too.I bet, someday, there will be a locking folder, that you just can't live without :D
Safe & Happy 4th,
-Vince

You're a wise man Vince. I don't doubt you're right. I guess I should say that right now I'm done.

Thanks for the wellwishes!

I'm actually carrying an STR slippe with ATS34 blade and CF scales. works like a gem.

I'm really thinking of snagging a Ken Coats or Mike Alsdorf when I rebuild my knife fund.

Hopefully that'll be soon...:)

Sweet Krein btw. Love my Buck Alpha Hunter folder. Thing I like about it is I carry it horizontal on my belt to use it (many times a day) I pop the snap with my thumb then thumb and forefinger pull the knife from the sheath. The blade is on the top at this time. Then I slide the knife in to my hand laying on it's side on my fingers. Then I actuate the thumb knob opening the blade to lock. I cut straps or cardboard whatever edge up if possible. Then pulling the knife back I actuate the liner lock to close the blade slide the knife in to the sheath hand moves forward then back to close flap and snap the snap shut. I work to make this look like one fluid motion to anyone watching. It is fun to watch a persons expression when they see a knife used so smooth and effortlessly. The Buck is my first and only liner lock. I really like it it works smooth and tight.

CF Scales,I chickened out,on this choice once, for a custom order & went with, well,it never got filled.
But from what I understand,what I was told,light,strong & really scratch resistant

Shadow patterns ,with man made scales, seem to be,the "ultimate user" in a slipjoint folder
I'm glad to hear what you're getting into,it sounds good,enjoy them !

They are smaller slippies, but I like the Schrade liner lock knives, as long as they stay tight. The 194OT in particular is hefty and feels nice in the hand.

I really like my folding knives but I can never seem to trust them the same as I would a fixed blade! I'm definatly not done with my folders but, if I can I carry a FB.

Hi all,

I've finally decided that I'm no longer buying locking knives.

I've spent the last year buying just about every production brand of locking knives and I have to say that I've yet to find one that worked perfectly and was really worth the hassle.

This is probably more a reflection on me than anything else, but I am at the point where I'd rather know for sure that the knife will fold if I flip it over, and deal with that limitation, than to put false trust in a locking knife.

I hope this isn't construed as trolling or being a butt, and I'm not upset with any particular company, it's just that I've finally realized that it's a lost cause.

Bottom line: I really don't need a knife that will stay open. if I really want that, I'll use my fixed blade.

thanks for letting me vent and take care,
brett

Welcome to the FOLD brother, I have my share of locking folders, but always am slipping back to my real calling. Good Luck with the hunt for one from Mike and others, Such as Ken, Kerry, Mike, Jerry, Tony, Reese, and Don. So many here that are great I am sure I left someone out.

PS: Nice chatting with you the other day, don't be a stranger, call again.

Thank you Jim. It was a pleasure talking to you also. I'll be sure to give you a ring so I can pick your brain on my next purchase, whenever that happens...:)

take care,

I prefer carrying a small fixed blade, as opposed to a folder, but I would never give up a folder. Do what you feel comfortable with, just be sure of local laws about fb carry. I can carry a huge folder in MD, but not a little PSK style knife.

thanks Dan. that's good advice. I can carry a fixed blade, but prefer just a pocket knife.

Interesting decision. I carry a fixed blade at work, for convenience and reliability.

But for an everyday pocketknife I don't have a preference regarding locking or not; I've been equally comfortable carrying a BuckLite lockback, ring lock Opinel, or slipjoint Old Timer. I certainly wouldn't discount a knife just because it had (or didn't have) a lock.

Good Luck to you!

thanks Bob. I guess I've just had some bad experiences with locking knives and I'm tired of them.
