A co-worker and fellow knife knut of mine (Mick) was diagnosed with colon cancer about six years ago. He has received treatment (don't know the technical terms) at regular intervals and had to retire early due to his wife ending up in a coma about a year ago. She remains in the hospital, but is conscious from time to time. He had to recently get a "non-judicial foreclosure" whatever that means and has been staying with his first son. His medical bills are getting paid off by insurance and the government, but the recent foreclosure has made it hard for Mick to get by in pretty much every other way.
At work, we had a small sign and a plastic jar for donations to help him out. Mick told me that there was about $18 in it after three weeks of collecting. Mick is unable to work for obvious reasons, and I only see him once a week or so, as opposed to maybe five times a week before the foreclosure. He just doesn't have the time to visit me at work any more, and I understand that totally. He has since gone to Newport (about a 20-minute drive) to sell all of his knives except for a Buck 110, in a last-ditch effort to get some money. It helped no doubt (he had some Sebenzas and a few Microtechs, along with some lower-cost knives) but all of the money was used for household food and getting his car fixed to visit his wife.
I've given him a few knives and told him to either enjoy them or sell them if he needs to, but hopefully they'll help in some way. I'm posting this to ask if anybody else would like to donate a piece of cutlery to help my friend. Please don't think I'm asking for a free Sebenza for my buddy or anything; the knives will go directly to him and I'm sure anything he gets will be appreciated. However, if you choose to donate, I ask you to include a return address so I can thank you in the right manner. Post as a reply, or E-mail me (link in my Profile) if you'd like to help out.
Thank you all for anything you can do.
