Ron Leuchen took me for $800.
Ya I was wrong in giving the 50% advance, I admite that.
But the reviews he recieved were outstanding, and concidering I had just gone throught a buitiful relasionship with RJ Knives..I took the chance.
I havent heard from Ron in 6months..neather has his frequent buyers!
Just avoid this brick and let him lay in the mirk as he should be.

For any Canuks....Wachout! He might be working in the Frt Mac AB area

I am really, really surprised by this.
Did you call him?
I was hoping to buy one of his knives and thought he was one of the good guys.
I hope there's a good explanation.

I hate to agree with JJW but I believe he may be right. I believe JJW is the same person that has been in contact with me trying to contact Ron. Neither of us has had any luck. I've dealt with Ron Leuschen for quite awhile and have several of his knives. Back in February, Ron & I were talking about making a fixed blade/folder duo but the last word I had from Ron was telling me he had found a job in the Canadian oil fields. He would be away from home for weeks at a time. Last word I heard was he was going to be moving from Saskatchewan so his family could be closer to his job. I too have tried to reach Ron by e-mail & phone with no success. I even tried to contact him through his website with no results. I believe the last contact I've had from Ron was back in May of this year. Before posting this, I went to his website again but it is not accessible... seems Ron has disappeared off the face of the earth. Hope someone can shed some light on Ron's whereabouts as this does not sound like the Ron Leuschen I knew. :(

There is another maker from Saskatchewan that is/was pretty close to Ron. His name is Shawn Pickering. His email address was sdknives@hotmail.com. Maybe he knows how to contact Ron.

I am really shocked to see this. I have known Ron for quite awhile and consider him to be a real stand-up guy. Hopefully this will all work out in the end.

Just picked up the November issue of Blade & notice an article by Wayne Goddard in which Ron Leuschen describes his forging/heat treating process for O-1 steel. I remember Ron telling me how excited he was about Mr. Goddard coming to him about his treatment of O-1! I hope we can find out what happened to Ron... seems like he was really making a name for himself.

Wow! I never thought I`d be in the crap list. I unfortunately don`t have time for much any more, the job really takes up a pile of time. My own parents didn`t even know I moved for at least a month, now I know this is no excuse but as mentioned before is a bit of an explanation.
This house we bought has no garage, no buildings big enough for a knife shop, so I had to claim one of the rooms down stairs to be the knife shop. It is now wired and ready for action, although my forging shop is not set up yet, but I have a friend that has offered to let me use some of his shop space as my smithy. I start on the first knfe to be finished tonight. I have a few nearly done, that only need finishing, like the the guys hawk and folder that he is wanting badly. He is definitely not the only one on my list to finish knives for and I plan on finishing every order that I have right now BEFORE i take any more orders.
There are many guys on this list that are quite patient and I thank them, unfortunately it only takes one to spoil it all.
Alot of the time I don`t get home from work till 10 pm and I`m gone again in the morning at 6:30 so it doesn`t leave much time to work on knives, I don`t get weekends off either, the only time I get off is the time I ask for which I haven`t asked for much because we needed the money. Now that I`m pretty much caught up with stuff I plan on taking more time off for knife making and family, just ask the wife, I`m not home very much. I can easily work 300 hours in a month.
Now on to knife buisness, I have everyones knife orders in a file still in the same order they were placed and I will be starting on them tonight. I plan on completeing every order do not worry. I`m sorry it has taken so long for this time to come but I`ve got to look after myself and the family first. Unfortunately I wasn`t able to make the payments on my website so it went down and now the only e-mail I get is from my old hotmail adress which is little_hen_knives@hotmail.com

Remember JJW you begged me to make your hawk and folder which I was a bit reluctant to do, but I accepted the challenge and I do plan on finishing them, but the vulgar language, THREATS!, and written abuse are definitely not appreciated as I stated in my reply to you in the e-mail. Have some patients like the rest have and above all...grow up a little.

Any one with questions about their orders or anything else please feel free to e-mail me at the address stated above.

Thanks cockroachfarm for the heads up on the bashing I was receiving!

Ron... Glad you're still kickin'! Really thought something had happened to you out in the oil fields! I knew stickin' it to people was not your style but when I couldn't contact you with e-mails..... Did you catch the Wayne Goddard write-up in the November issue of Blade? Good to have you back!!!

I thought we would be hearing from you Ron. Kind of figured that things were as you described them in your above post. Sometimes life gets in the way and screws up all of a persons plans.

JJW, I can understand your frustration. Not hearing from Ron in six months must have had you really wondering what was going on. I certainly don't think that threats and vulgar language are the way to get what you want, but who knows, I may have reacted in the same way if presented with the situation you found yourself in.

I am sure that Ron will fulfill his obligation. It is a downright shame that things went as far as they did.

Funny I never saw this before, because I own probably one of the first truly great damascus knives Ron made.
It's the one knife that I will never sell, and here's why :

Ron works away from his family on oil rigs for half of the year, like probably deep water horizon type stuff and has a hard life (or at least did, I haven't been in contact).

If anyone has current contact info I'd like to tell him even though I have a hundred knives with supersteel I still use the damascus fixed he made because it represents an honest hard working guy.

Update this thread regarding how this situation was resolved.
He was doing hard, dangerous work and while I will not excuse a person for not honoring obligations, I suspect that in 2024 if he is still making knives, outfitting, or alive, people shouldn't hesitate to do business with him.

Let's see where this goes (just noticed how ancient this thread is)

Trying to get in touch with Ron, this seems a logical place to check
Google would be the more logical place instead of bumping a thread that’s close to 20 years old about a member who hasn’t been on the forums in close to 20 years.
