Don't forget your QuickClot!

Tourniquet's are by far the most important piece of gear for controlling serious bleeding. It's amazing how many people are behind the learning curve on the applications & use of tourniquets......
Agreed. The problem lies in false information. Most people still retain that tourniquets are an absolute last resort and will automatically result in loss of limb. Hell, I remember hearing that very thing years ago in Boy Scouts. Thank God civilian EMS is finally catching up. The National Registry has finally omitted pressure points and elevation (after direct pressure) for controlling hemorrhage. Now, the Registry teaches direct pressure, if nogo, then right to tourniquet.

The CAT tourniquet is issued by the Army currently, it is well made and it not a bad choice for the money.
..... :)

I use the CATs as that is what I'm issued. I've gotten pretty damn fast with them. Every issue I've encountered with CAT failures are in training exercises where a CAT has been utilized too many times, resulting in nylon stretch. We have to tell the soldiers they are meant as single-use items.
I've played around with SOF-Ts and they definitely work, but have stuck with CATs.
Haven't yet tried the Cav Arms TQ. In fact, didn't even know Cav Arms still existed after their ATF troubles years ago. I'll have to check 'em out.

You have a picture and list for those?

Great guide for folks to get theirs together!

Don't know why it keeps rotating the pic. Oh Well.

Oh yeah, I've seen that. You said your first aid kits are much better, that's what we're talking about.

You were probably wondering, "Why the hell do these guys want a picture of a quickclot pouch?" ;)

I found one of those at a reasonable price, the outdoors store in town wants like $30-$40 or something for the same one  It should be here with the other goodies I ordered. Still need to get a tourniquet though, I guess I always figured I could rip my shirt off like Hulk Hogan and use the shreds, but there's a ton of holes in that idea...

Yeah, a makeshift tourniquet is better than nothing but has some serious shortcomings vs. purpose built tourniquets.

You can rig up a tourniquet in a pinch with a bandana/shirt, key ring and ball point pen but this is far from ideal and would only be a last resort.

Oh, DUH!! LOL!

The first aid kit in my bag is from Adventure Medical kits. "The sportsman", I just added a bunch of stuff to it. Basic stuff like Ace bandage, instant cold compresses, ,Smelling salts, Insect, sting capsules, Iodine swabs, And other stuff. Not to mention all the stuff in the backpack itself. I have a slightly bigger kit at work, kinda more of the same. I don't keep one in the car. It's too hot in the car and they go to crap.

I am by no means an EMT or anything, I am just a machinist that plays with knives. :)

EDIT,
Everything important in the backpack is kept in a dry bag.

Just a reminder for folks to be mindful of the Expiration Dates on both the Q.C. and the Celox. While you can push those dates a bit - they are products that really DO expire and will need to be replaced when they expire or within a reasonable time after.

Thanks Bullcarver! I didn't even realize it had an expiration date... maybe I should take a little time and read through the products in my first aid kits :o

Just found a QuickClot "Advanced Clotting Sponge" anyone have any experience with that?

Wow. I never realized there was an expiration date. Thanks for the heads up. It may be time to get a new supply.
