Actually, I heard from Ivoryworksltd.com that one should not soak ivory in mineral oil - just leave a little cup of water in the display case... To be perfectly frank, we were talking about mammoth ivory, but still...

What if you do not keep your knives in a display case?

Since leaving water in the display case would be meant to keep the humidity up, could this not also cause a problem with rust? I know that you should be coating your blades with something, but this doesn't always work.
